De Bruyne?

Why do we want the press to be falling over wanking themselves at the prospect of him joining us. I never understand it. IMO I trust our management and they say they want him and will pay what to the ordinary man in the street a huge sum of money for. I don't care whether samuel thinks he is worth it or not, or what other fans say from other clubs. If we sign this lad it will allow us the possibility of having a front line of De Bruyne, Silva, Aguero and Sterling which on paper seems the best attacking line up I have ever seen at City.

Literally everything.

His argument is that Sterling seems good value because paying 46m for De Bruyne is crazy.

He thinks it is crazy because mourinho sold him 18 months ago, after playing less than 3 games in the premier league, therefore he's not worth a big fee.

If every club followed that logic then there would be no foreign players in the league. The idea you have to be proven in the league to be worth money is laughable.

Not to mention the sycophantic arse licking of Mourinho - acting like he has other worldly judgement of players that our set up could only dream of having and is incapable of making mistakes - even though they've made half a dozen mistakes since he rejoined them 2 years ago.

It also leaves out the fact Mourinho would have more than happily kept him, but didn't because De Briyne wanted to leave. He wanted to leave because he wanted to play every week and not be stuck behind Willian.

Secondly, I'd actually argue that signing the assist leader in Europe last year, who beat Robben, Ribery, Muller, Reus, lewandowski to German POTY for only 2m more than Sterling shows how much we overplayed for sterling based on his future potential so his fundamental premise is wrong.

Sterlings fee was 50% current ability, 50% potential. De Bruyne is delivering already at the level that makes him worth £46m.

I could not have written a more incorrect, stupid and baseless article if I had tried.

It does grate on me how many people seem to think Mourinho is a transfer god. That he knows absolutely everything about every player. If he isn't good enough for a Mourinho side then he isn't good enough full stop. Mourinho likes a certain type of player and he wants his players to fight 100% for his team whether they start or not. De Bruyne wanted game time so he moved on. It's worked out pretty well for him as he's gone on to win player of the season in Germany and he was very good for Belgium in the World Cup last summer too.

I stand by the fact that Edin Hazard would be twice the player if he was at City and allowed to play football rather than work himself into the ground. Yes you have to do defensive work but Mourinho still doesn't trust that Chelsea squad so it's another long hard season for his first 11.

Good journalists can write bad articles.

IMO Samuel is a good journo, and the article is poor. Why shouldnt we discuss it on here?
