De Bruyne is a good player but not the kind of world-class signing we need this summer. We can't repeat the same mistakes made in previous windows where we buy players who add to our squad but don't elevate our team to the next level like Pogba, Bale or Koke could.

I disagree, De Bruyne's delivery into the box is definitely world class and he has over 20 assists to prove so.

His all round game and work rate needs to improve but in one or two years time he will definitely be world class.

Koke or Pogba are central midfielders anyway, De Bruyne is an attacker.

Forget Bale, he will be at Madrid next season because he is a Perez favourite, plus even if he was to go he would be rag bound.

We wouldn't pay 80m-100m for him when we need to rebuild the bigger picture.

De Bruyne's delivery is excellent but 20 assists in one season in the Bundesliga is not enough to show that he can be a star player in a team that wants to win not only the title but progress to the final few teams in the CL.

Reus is world-class and could be available particularly now Klopp is leaving. Sterling is also a better bet than De Bruyne because he's already got more flair and speed than him even though he's three and a half years younger.
This season De Bruyne has over twice the amount of goals than sterling and over 3x the amount of assists. He was also key to them beating bayern 4-1 whereas sterling chooses to go missing in big games but then again why let a small matter of facts get in the way of a good story lets go for that massively overrated lad just because he's English.

Where are you getting these stats???

De Bruyne in 30 league appearances this season, has scored 10 goals and made 18 assists.
Sterling in 31 league appearances this season, has scored 7 goals and made 7 assists.

Yeah De Bruyne's assists are significantly better and his goal record is slightly better but that's in a second-place team in the Bundesliga as opposed to a fifth-place team in the Premier League. Also, Sterling's lack of assists isn't necessarily indicative of his failings but Liverpool's lack of a consistent goalscoring striker (Sturridge has had a long-term injury and Balotelli/Lambert/Borini haven't performed).

All things considered, De Bruyne's record is a bit better than Sterling's this season. But the season before Sterling scored and assisted more. Remembering again that Sterling is 20 while De Bruyne turns 24 in a month, it's pretty obvious on net who's the better signing.

And Sterling is English too.

Whoscored.com , strangely enough these players play some games in other competitions than the league, and de Bruyne has 15 goals and 22 assists in 41 games whilst sterling has 7 goals and 7 assists in 40 games. Just to let you know half the time de Bruyne is supplying for nicklas bendtner and the other half for bas dost ( played 25 & 26 games) so he's hardly supplying for world class strikers himself. Sterling scores or assists on average every 2.86 games which a direct winger like him is pretty average (similar to yannick bolasies record at this)whereas de Bruyne scores or assists every 1.1 games which is much higher. Few other players average per game to put sterling record into perspective for you-
John Walters 2
Erik lamela 3.3
Falcao( a striker of course but he's been a laughing stock this season) 2
Stewart Downing 2.56

And to put de Bruyne into perspective:
Eden hazard 1.43
Sergio aguero 1.03
Gareth bale 1.45
Alexis Sanchez 1.23

Again, this is wrong. Sterling has scored 7 in the league but 11 in all competitions. Not only are De Bruyne's stats put into the context of a weaker domestic league but also a weaker European competition (Wolfsburg were in the Europa League while Liverpool were knocked out of the CL).

But yeah, your main point is right: De Bruyne has had a better season than Sterling. But it's just one season. In the 2013/2014 season Sterling's stats were better. Sterling is almost four years younger in addition to being homegrown. Not much of a debate here. De Bruyne would definitely be the fall back option here.

i was wrong it wasn't 7 goals 7 assists but looked again there it is actually 8 goals 8 assists, where is your data of 11 in all competitions as one of ours is wrong. I also don't think the leagues are that different in quality, the premier league is of course miles ahead in most aspects but actual quality we may be ahead but not massively. I personally believe sterling is massively overrated( with some stats to back that up) so we're clearly not going to agree but de Bruyne is cheaper and in my opinion has more quality, sterling is a speed merchant but I think he could be found to be an Aaron Lennon.
