Come on mate, I said quite clearly:
They're different players of course, with different strengths and weaknesses, but I don't understand why you'd have you denigrate Lampard to elevate Delph.
Worth pointing out though that Delph wasn't Villa's anchorman De Jong type, he was their do it all centre mid. And that goal return is poor whichever way you look at it.
My point though was simply that it's a debatable point whether or not Delph for Lampard represents a strengthening of the squad. Especially since Yaya's a year older for example.
I'd argue that it is though, given Yaya's proven himself a reliable goal scorer, and like you said, bringing in Delph could see us pushing Yaya forward for example - if need be.
Plus, the pursuit of De Bruyne is far from dead yet. Horses for courses.
I just took exception to you undermining Lampard's contributions last season.
What are you talking about? lampard's legs have gone. He got a few goals last season but most games passed him by. we did well to squeeze some contribution from him, but he's finished as a top level player. Delph is 25 and a very good midfielder and for that reason represents an enormous upgrade on Lampard. It's ridiculous to suggest anything else.
