De Bruyne?

If United are losing Di Maria and we land KDB because of it, it makes United/Pedro make sense. Cavani has to stay if Zlatan leaves and Lacazette said in plain language he is staying at Lyon yesterday.

Did Lacazette say he loved the club and was looking forward to the new season?

They've completely fucked up, buying people with varying styles, no cohesive structure based upon their FIFA rating.

In fact their transfer policy has been a joke for a good 3 years now and the brighter footy neutrals have been blogging about it for a while

They'll be stronger than they were last season I think. Obviously that's inevitable when you throw huge amounts of money at a problem; some of those signings will prove successful. I think the notion that they are run by fucking idiots is, sadly, fanciful though.

To be fair, when they purchase Di Maria and Falcao many of us thought the same thing. @Damocles is right, they have a recent pattern of over paying for either players that are well beyond their sell-by date or do not fit their philosophy.

That said, the same thing could be said of our transfer activity over the last three years (prior to this window)—though, our mistakes were much less damaging.

Agree with you Ric their demise was short lived we needed the scum to miss out on top 4 again for them to really be damaged.

Who gives a flying fug we will give them 2 beatings and win the title gonna be a great season i also think delph is a better player than many realise he will give us energy and we will be quicker going forward.

I'm not so sure when it comes to the big signings. Valdez, Falcao, and Di Maria were significant failures last year, I can see the german following the same route, and if Real really want De Gea they'll get him eventually, as he wants to go. There's another 6 weeks yet, but I'm not convinced they'll be significantly better off, if we get all our targets, they won't be challenging us.

I hope this one in particular gets done, I think it gives us greater variety, not just in terms of player, but in flexibility of playing style.

I guess this is a discussion for the United thread in the General Football Forum. Let's keep this thread about De Bruyne.

I disagree. If we ignore the narrative for a minute:

United have appointed a great accountant into their CEO position who is responsible for all departments in the club.

During this time they have bought Blind and Rojo, both World Cup stars, Herrera who was a long term acquisition, then Di Maria, Falcao, Shaw, Depay, Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin.

This is hard to describe but take out the WC stars of Blind and Rojo then long term Herrera. Di Maria wouldn't have fit United if they paid 500 million for him. Falcao the same, Shaw is a much better United signing and have no issue with, Depay alright, Schweinsteiger laughable and Schnedierlin unproven.

Manchester United built a very particular brand which allowed them to dominate. They have abandoned this and they don't seem to know why their star purchases aren't working and fans are becoming far less interested.

United has a squad built off of an ideal on how to play, a bit like Barca. It doesn't matter how good the players are if they are lost on the pitch.

Have this conversation a lot with the United lads and they are circling the drain, snapping up any vaguely familiar players that they can

Do you think they'll do better or worse than last season?

I think they'll do about the same or better, but with a caveat that the very thing that has made them both special and have the ability to dominate has taken another season of attrition.

Have no doubt they've improved on the short term. My issue is that they've sacrificed their future to do so over the past 2 years and continue to do so
