When you tally the averages for his game to game ratings over a season, you'd find it is commensurate to those of Huddlestone, Song, and Leiva. His tackles are flashy in that he goes in with intense force to the delight of the fans. And the tackles are remembered often. But others accomplish similar goals by other means.
He is a good tackler, who passes the ball well and defends admirably. But he is not special. He is not fast, athletic or
tall. Does not make quick decision on the ball, and is often too cautious (or worse, doesn't see the play). A good player but in no way dynamic.
