there are 2 of them, if that!

You lot are incapable of debating anything, but next game I implore you to watch De Jong and watch what he does please.
You may not see what I see but then at least we can have a discussion.

The proof will be next season with how much De Jong plays, IMO he won't play that much but you are entitled to your opinion.

Mancini knows De Jong is absolutely superb, hence why he will play more than most players in our side next season.

I am not incapable of having a debate. I am incapable of having a debate with someone who says 'look at their Football Manager/Fifa stats" though!

not read through the whole thread but if anyone is saying dejong isnt the player we could have for his position you all need your head checking! dejong is the best dm in the world, he does the perfect job of the dm, he never goes missing! if we didnt have dejong id prefer diarra (madrid) or song (arsenal) but youd notice a big difference

Quick point about the tackling stats Sabster.

Firstly Mancini favours a very sturdy midfield three so although Yaya is expected to push forward its not as if NDJ has to do all the grafting whilst two fancy-dan creative midfielders shirk the work-load. He arguably has more support in there than any other holding midfielder around.

So that straight away lessens the work-load which lessens the amount of tackling he has to commit to.

Secondly Mancini also favours quite an unusual style of defending for the British game.
The midfielders often dont commit and instead are instructed to stand and fill the spaces....to basically cover and block out avenues where an opposing player might attempt a through ball.
Its only when the ball is penetrated to around the penalty area that challenges begin to fly in - and thats usually done by Sir Vincent.

So again, less tackles made.

Stats play their part but ultimately it comes down to this -
If City are a goal up with a minute to go I'd want Nige in front of our back-line over any other player in the world. And thats not bias because I fucking love the guy. Its because he's more likely to put in a clean tackle, regain possession, and play it simple to a team-mate, more than anyone else around.

Dax, I can see your point about people being entitled to a different opinion to the masses. But that only stretches so far.
If I saw a mate's newborn baby my opinion may be that the nipper is freakishly ugly....but if I said so surely that would cause upset and offence from the parent.

The same kinda thing applies here. NDJ has become so much more than a City player to us. He is our kith and kin.
So whilst someone is entitled to say he is on a par with Carrick...that's like saying my mum is as attractive as Pat Butcher.
Its an insult basically. Can you not see this?
Ah! May I start by saying I think he is far superior to Carrick!!

But going by your analogy, I am family too. Thus, if my mum has a new baby and I a 7 year old brother spat out, "damn! mum, Junior is ugly!" I doubt the angst against me will be similar to that of a stranger saying the same thing.

As a part of the family, I should get some leeway, no? I mean I will shut down my liverpool friends if they claimed Ade or Jo or RSC sucked. I'll do so coz they are not a part of the City family and they don't mean us well. But when City fans discuss City players, I expect the inherent belief that deep down we al seek the same thing, a successful City, to be paramount, and thus carry some leeway in discussing candidly how we view a player. Even if those opinions differ.

Needs to get off pretend phony games, get on a plane to Manchester and actually start going to the games himself.

His passing is top notch, hes a tidy footballer, he protects the defence superbly, hes very classy on the ball, so strong, he's a very intelligent player who reads the game superbly, hes a big game player and he gives City so much penetration. Without De Jong, we lack urgency and steel and any team in the Prem would love to have him. If you cannot see that, then De Jong really has knobbed your bird.

agree with all of that, and most importantly look at how we play when he is not there - second half at Birmingham, the whole match at Liverpool. Nigel De Jong is the heartbeat of the team, he breaks up play like noone else in the premier league, and his short passing to set up attacks are excellent; anyway the good news is that Roberto Mancini picks our team, and he well knows that NDJ is 1 of his 3 most valuable players; you know that, I know that, and 95% plus of City's regular fans know that

What i dont get mate, is how these 2 arent happy with De Jong? He is one of the players who should be exempt from criticism. He is the heartbeat of our team in the middle of the park and if De Jong was to go, they would soon realise just how much we miss him.
I will pay you 500 dollars if you can point to a post where I stated I wasn't happy with De Jong. $500 all yours. Have a go!

Stats are a bit misleading. De Jong often forced the attackers back. He was the reason why we were so stable in in front an lodged behind the 18. Mancini wouldn't dare fuck with the second best defence in the league.

Absolutely spot on.
