Yaya is bigger, but De Jong uses his strength in defensive situations a lot more. Hes much more assertive than Toure.

I'm honestly sick of reading this, you and Sabster both always have this condescending view of "heart on sleeve" type City fans, who you all seem to think aren't fit to judge a footballer because they are committed and passionate and don't have walls of stats up on their screen like your American sports channels do.

Here is a serious question I've been curious to ask, answer it or don't if you choose - how long have you supported City? What i dont get mate, is how these 2 arent happy with De Jong? He is one of the players who should be exempt from criticism. He is the heartbeat of our team in the middle of the park and if De Jong was to go, they would soon realise just how much we miss him.

I don't think they would realise because they don't get to that many City matches - 1 of them gets to 5 a season, the other none. There is noone I know who goes to matches, noone I sit near at home and away matches, who fails to see the value of NDJ; the negatives come from nerds who spend too much time trawling the internet for statistics, but I don't think a manager like Mancini plays someone based on their stats, he plays them for what they do in a match, and that's why he plays De Jong, and thats why he rested hom on the Monday night against the scousers before the semi final, and thats why he admitted after the match that he got it wrong; these know it alls with their stats need to get out a bit more and watch a few more live City matches; as for the comment about De Jong can't tackle, absolutely shagfuckering ridiculous

De Jong is the player that gives off a huge presence amonst our players. Hes the spine of our midfield and anyone who cannot see that needs to watch him a little bit closer, instead of watching Udinese v Palermo and so on. Or even LA Galaxy v Kansas City wizards.

Strength I can't provide stats, but I rarely see him go shoulder to shoulder and shit all ove rpeople in the way that Yaya does (but also look at his body it is not that strong).

In terms of tackles I can provide stats ;)

1) This season De Jong made 77 tackles. Lucas made 111 Parker 93, Song 79 (A player who he is believed to be considerably better than).

2) The season before, Mascherano made about 180 tackles and completed more passes than anyone else (if you want to be a sole DM these are the stats you need). De Jong made 60

firstly out of the above mentioned... how many of them played it with another defensive midfield partnership a la de jong and barry. whose sole roles where to defend the back 4.

also out of them how many where included in a defensive set up? which will obviously mean the defensive duties are shared.. therefore... one man is not required to do all the breaking down... the amount of times this year a attack has broken down due to our lack of pace... and they have countered and either barry or de jong... has broken up there play is ridiculous. and with yaya working back as well. its very rare you see teams attack through the middle of pitch against us... because of this midfield 3.

you bring in these "stats" but when someone mentions the points when he was playing and when he wasnt playing stat, you say will balotelli had better... and just brush aside the stat! failing to see difference that the stat showed.

Claude Makelele the guy the role is now named after pretty much... only made 97 tackles on season so Lucas is better than him!

A stat that looks at 4 games is not a reasonable stat.
