De Jong to rags?

However, it also brings a wry smile to think that our once illustrious neighbours are having to sign a player that made just 11 league starts during his final season with us. Not only that, but De Jong would improve United's team immeasurably which shows just how poor their squad currently is."

Summed up nicely.

Great point

De Jong is just a thug who'd be a liability.
Not good enough for us but probably just up the scum's street.

Behave. De Jong was fantastic for us, loved the guy and was gutted when we let him go.

This just about sums it up. I have no real affection for De Jong. He was a good player for us, but limited in what he could do. I seem to recall him saying he was using us as a stepping stone when he signed. That didn't exactly work out well for him, because it was us that outgrew him rather than the other way round.
It won't be pleasant seeing him in red, but I can't say I'm particularly arsed. The situation bears no resemblance to when we signed Tevez, it's more like when we signed Terry Cooke.

Some comments on here ripping into NDJ are laughable.

The guy was a beast for city and helped instill that winning mentality into this club, putting his body on the line.
Sure he was paid well enough but people are to quick to forget when players leave this club.

Our style of football has moved on and someone like NDJ in our current system would be restrictive... but at the time he was and still is one of my favourite players to wear that blue shirt.

Good luck to NDJ wherever he goes... hopefully he doesn't go to the swamp.

We got Fernando now. Just wait and watch. He'll surprise us all. This guy is so underrated not because he played for Porto, but because he plays in a position that is not attractive to watch. He's the best pure defensive midfielder in the world and is the best at ball-winning and positioning. He's only reaching his prime where Pellegrini will further upgrade him. It's fascinating that if De Jong goes to United and with City having Fernando now, the difference is remarkable. Plus getting him in such a low fee is outstanding. City having him is a huge upgrade. As I liked De Jong at City, I can't be mad for him going to United but actually feeling the opposite because we got a player that is in a whole different level.

While de Jong served the club well, he has no real attachment to City imo and would be happy to play for them for the right wage.
