De Jong to rags?

Apologies, and this is from someone who has never sent a text by mobile phone in my life, in fact I don't own a mobile phone.

I personally dont see United signing him. For years their fans have hit us with insults about us signing the likes of Cole and Cooke or Peter City.

I think signing De Jong would be a clear indication of how far they've fallen.

First it was Vidal at £40+ million, then Strooman, Khedera, Kroos they've been linked with some of Europe's best central midfield players.

They end up with a (and I like De Jong as much as anyone) but in all honesty a City reject whom we have significantly improved up on.

It's a massive admission of their status if they sign a player we sold due to his limitations..

I can categorically reassure you that their manager won't give a hoot who a player used to play for if he improves their team. If he did he'd be an idiot.

I'm sorry, but you can't categorically reassure me of anything. So far United have signed two players they identified 12 months ago. There is no sign of Van Gaal signing anyone.
The season starts in ten days, and they are now just being linked with anyone.

Football clubs don't just buy players because the manager wants them. Even if LVG wanted De Jong, United have to first consider their public perception. Signing a 30 year old City reject will hardly sell season tickets. It will hardly raise share prices.
It certainly won't be the 'United way'.

Can you honestly expect Woodward to boast about having millions to spend and pitch up with a cut price and limited ex City player?

If united had already signed a couple of very good and talented midfielders, I grant you Van Gaal may want a face he can rely on.

But not currently. Not in my opinion.

I for one, hope they sign De Jong. His best years are behind him, his reputation in England is that of a thug(despite having a very good record cards wise). I simply can't imagine one United fan being happy signing him.

They are full of self importane and arrogance, signing our cast offs would not go down well. Especially if their midfield is Fletcher, Carrick and De Jong. Obviously not countinh Herrera as I don't personally know anything about him.

Bet your bottom dollar when and if he arrived at Trafford the thug reputation will go out of the window,

Course he would go there. Chance to play in the Prem again, and he'd be an automatic starter for hem as he's far and away better than anyone else they have in that position. Plus they may well be in the CL again in a couple of years (Milan won't be anytime soon).

I think he'd be respectful to us (not giving digs like he did with to when he was with us - wonder if the Rags remember that?!). But he'd go there for sure.

I'd be sad to see him in a Rag rag. He was an absolute favourite of mine. Loved him. Still do. And he was and still is better than Mancini and many of our fans had him credit for.

Its overrated. I mean in the sense that the United way has been extinct for a lot of years. The media still bullshits about it, ex-rags come out with lines, but the fact it that a lot of their HG players are expensive acquisitions that have yet to prove their worth. Van persie, Berbatov are two examples, players in their prime with no resell value and an expensive tag. The media wanks over van gall, but no one points out that long standing tradition of a long appointed british managers has been broken.

Hence, I doubt they'd give a second thought if they want/need De Jong. Also I think their ST have been sold out. Woodward primary job was done as soon as Herera's deal was done

That's not the point I'm making. Whether they are identified by the board, the manager, whoever, doesn't matter. What I'm saying is that as a club it won't matter a jot whether a player three years ago played for City or anyone else. They'll sign him because they think he will improve them.

They would be blinkered lunatics to do anything else.

Would de Jong improve them? Probably, because their midfield is awful. He wouldn't be good enough for us any more because his passing range and ability on the ball isn't good enough for the Pellegrini style.

Sounds like Nige might be off to the swamp: <a class="postlink" href="http://metro.co.uk/2014/08/23/manchester-united-confident-of-finally-completing-daley-blind-and-nigel-de-jong-transfers-4843742/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://metro.co.uk/2014/08/23/mancheste ... s-4843742/</a>
along with Daley Blind.

Good post DD.

De Jong improves them greatly.

Two more very good players of the same ilk and yesterdays man is back in with a chance of getting a top four spot.

I don't want to see him there. I don't want to see Balo at Liverpool. They were part of our title winning side and I still have massive affection for them. I'll try to get my shit together and move on :)

Left us so cheap...

3m pounds for him maybe from Milan. People said its because he had only one year of his contract.

Now a move is on the cards for around 6-8m pounds. And he is in the last year of his contract at Milan. (Signed in 2012 summer for 3 years contract.)

Also he is 2 years older now. Yet they are maybe getting 2-3 times more than we got for him.
