My opinion, for what it's worth, is that DDR has made this public 'show of loyalty' to ensure that if/when a bid is accepted by Roma, he has laid his foundations to be able to say it was the club's decision not his, therefore retaining adulation of the Roma fans.

Should no bid be made or accepted, it looks as if he always had every intention of remaining at Roma.

For him it's win-win.
