I was unaware that he's in a custody battle for his daughter. I'd never have got my hopes up at the beginning of this one if I'd known that.

Are we spending too much time chasing De Rossi or Martinez? I thought our overwhelming priority this window should be a centre back. I know both of the above can play there, but neither are the robust dominant type we need if Kompany is missing.

the key to all this for me is Mancinis desire to play more with a 352 formation, footballing defenders are what makes this formation happen.

When Kompany was missing last season we looked a touch soft at the back, easily bullied. Adding more footballing defenders would not help. All of our existing centre backs are much better suited to playing alongside Kompany than they are at deputising for him. DDR or Martinez might be an upgrade on Lescott but the fact remains we still need someone physical to back up Kompany.

If i was a top midfielder and played for the team i support, i would find it hard to move, but surely after all these years, serie A to the prem is a no brainer?

Surely if you got the opportunity to play in the prem you would do

This. I hoenestly do not believe it is wages that are scuppering this deal, De Rossi is a player Mancini has wanted at City for a long time, if he wants him, he will get him in my opinion.

De Rossi will sacrifice one of the biggest pay checks in the league, Champions League nights, and the trophies has has far too few of. You have to admire it, such footballers are a rare breed nowadays. At the same time he is going to retire with far less than such a great player deserves.

Isn't he on a really good salary already? and the % of tax high salary earners pay in Italy is much less then you pay in England, or am i wrong?

Absolutely not, it's been on the front page of Italian sports newspapers, Gazzetta even said he had said yes to us.

They also had a headline saying Wesley had signed for us this time last year
