Manchester City ready to tempt Roma's Daniele De Rossi with €9 million wage deal - report

Premier League spenders ready top-wage bid for Italy international despite a reluctance to sell at the Trigoria-based outfit

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi could be enticed to leave the club and move to Manchester City who are offering him a €9 million wage package.

Sky Sport Italia reports City are ready to offer the 27-year-old €5m more than his current wages at the Serie A side in order to convince him to leave Italy.

However, Goal.com Italy understands Manchester City's offer will be closer to €6m per annum.

De Rossi is considered by coach Luis Enrique as fundamental to his plans, and just last week club president Thomas DiBenedetto said he would do everything to ensure the Italy international was offered a new deal.

No contract offer appears to have arrived since then, and De Rossi's current deal expires next year, adding pressure on his side to move with haste or risk losing him on a free transfer in 2012.

City boss Roberto Mancini is eager to land the Italian and has the money to do it. Roma are not able to match City's spending power and they are unwilling to offer De Rossi anything more than what he currently earns.

De Rossi, however, is seen as heir to captain Francesco Totti, and the Lido di Ostia-born player has always said he would never leave the club, even when Real Madrid were knocking at the door.

9m/a year is bullshit....

Still....not suprised if we sign him. Only 1 year left of his contract and he is one of the best midfielders in the world.

A deep-lying playmaker who defensively is excellent...and his passing range and technique is world class.

This makes sense if Mancini is planning to drop Barry..which i think he is.

And very very experienced and would benefit the youngsters. Still..could be hard to persued him to leave Roma but a little less harder with a Italian coach.

whats going on mancio ? i know he only has one year left on his contract ?
would kill for him at city, can do everything in the middle of the park for me, going back and forward

his wife left him. now lives with a criminal , a kind of king of Tsigane. they dont let De Rossi see his 2 little girls. and he went completely nuts.
Could be bad news:-((
Sounds like it could re-run a Tevez saga... "I just want to see my children"
edit: Mancio for "tsigane" we say "gypsy" thanks for the info!

If we get De Rossi, we don't need Nasri/Sneijder. Toure wouldn't have to fall back and a front 6 would simply consist of:

---De Rossi-de Jong---
Silva---Yaya---Balotelli
-----Aguero/Dzeko-----

i totally agree mate!! milner should be given a chance this coming season!! has more to offer than hes been allowed to show since being at city!

The Roma vice-captain recently separated from his wife whilst his father-in-law was shot dead.

Furthermore, after openly admitting to a fallout with the Roma faithful, he has given his clearest indication yet that he open to a move, despite his boyhood ties with the club.

He said: 'They [Roma fans] used to treat me as one of their own, they would tell me to throw in another elbow, but now the wind has changed. Something here at Roma is changing.

De Rossi is believed to be earning £60,000 a week, a salary that won't deter potential suitors from a deal.

His father, Alberto, who is still a youth team coach added,

'[He] would never want to face a future away from Roma [but] if he expressed himself [in that way], then there is a cause behind it.'

This is from back in march when the daily mail said he was nailed on for going to the rags, tee hee

De Rossi is an upgrade over Barry but it doesn't necessarily upgrade our attack or creativity, which lacked at times last season, especially since it isn't a given that Aguero, if we even get him, would hit the ground running.

As it originated from goal.com it's probably bollocks but I think our targets remain more attack-minded midfielders.

You should have seen his passing last night... really awful

He was nothing but a good player in an average team a Villa.
