Didn't realise Massachusetts has the death penalty, thought they were more civilised than that.
I lived there for 3 and a half years and always thought there was no death penalty in the state.

The reason for this is because it was tried in a Federal Court rather than a State court. I don't know for sure why but I think any terrorist act is a Federal issue, either that or they wanted to make sure they could Fry him

I've no problem with people supporting the death penalty, so long as they would be prepared to switch on the chair themselves (figuratively speaking, obviously; "pushing the syringe" would be more accurate).

I'm sure some people on that jury would be prepared to carry out the deed themselves, and that's totally fair enough. But I dare say there were one or two who were quick to condemn the boy to death but who wouldn't have the guts to do it themselves.

I sure as hell couldn't do it, no matter how much I hated someone or wanted to punish them, so I'd never expect someone else to execute my judgement.

your views may change if they the convicted person had raped and killed your mother or wife or 8 year old daughter or all three

This is the exact argument why you are not the jury of a crime if you're affected by it

Maybe your view would change too if it was your son/daughter, mother or father ready to be fried?

I am sure if one of my children had raped and murdered someone I would be devastated but more so because I would partly blame myself but I would not be able to forgive them for what they had done and the lives they had ruined. They would have to pay the price for their crimes even if that included the ultimate price. If every parent brought their children up in the right manner with strong values the world would be a much better place.

I am from Texas and in the minority in this state when it comes to the death penalty. I could probably be convinced that it's ok if there weren't countless number of people who have been executed by this state/country who were innocent. One is to many in my book. That being said, I won't lose much sleep over this one.
