Declan Rice

As City fans we’ve been in the situation you are now. Off the top of my head Van Persie, Sanchez, Maguire, all chose United. But United couldn’t sign everyone. In fact, looking back at that list turns out we dodged a couple of bullets.
People bang on about City’s money, but I don’t remember us breaking many transfer records (possible exception Grealish). All the players we signed who turned out to be stars for us were available for other clubs to sign. That’s not buying success, it’s smart recruitment + a little bit of luck.
Fact is, most players when faced with the choice of joining a proven winner or a club with potential will choose the proven winner. That’s a fact and that’s what you’re up against if we’re in for him.
I suspect that’s why you’re spending so much time in this thread ;)
You do realise bookmakers are offering less than even money on Rice going to Arsenal? Where as City are around 10 to 1.

You cant change the fact Rice grew up in London and his entire family is in London. Your interest is incidental to our pursuit of Rice.

You keep harping on about a 28 year old Phillips. He's nearer 27 than 28 (birthday in December). If he leaves it will be on a four/five year deal so won't exactly be ready for his zimmer frame when that expires. You are reportedly getting c£15m for a 31 year old Xhaka.
Also, Phillips is a current England international and has played one international less than Saliba has played premier league games. Out of interest, what do you value him at? Go on, give us all a chuckle.
Players are like stocks. They should be valued on what they could do in the future, not what they have done in the past. The idea Saliba and Phillips are of comparative value is false. As for Xhaka, your right, we are getting around 15m euro given he is 31. If he were 25 the fee would two and a half times that.

As for Phillips. I think 30m is a decent offer. Newcastle got Guimarães for 40m. I think clubs would be inclined to take a punt on players in Europe rather than spending 50m on Phillips. There is safety in buying Phillips as you know what you are getting, but he offers no upside reward. He isnt going to break out like Guimarães who cost 40m, or even Odegaard who we got for 35m.

But thats the nature of being a partisan football fan. You want to sell Phillips for 50m and buy Rice for 60m. All fans have a tendency to overvalue their own players and discount others. Rather than look at it from your point of view, look at it from West Ham's point of view.

I refer paragraph 2 to paragraph 1 for a head wobble.

It’s horses for courses. Phillips walks into most Premier League midfields. Sadly, he’s behind the best DM in the world at City and he’s new to the system. His value to City is TBD, and his value in England, to the right club, is unknown. Putting numbers on it and then further exacerbating the problem by comparisons that are not comparable, seems like a futile exercise…from anyone’s point of view.

Phillips isnt getting in the Arsenal, United, Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool teams. Is he a better player than Bentancur at Spurs? Doubt it.

This is a player who played 11 teams for you this season, most of which I imagine came off the bench. Just because he plays for you, doesn't mean he is high quality. Pep obviously doesn't rate him.

Come on mate you no thats absolutely shite

Arsenal midfield I agree although Partey absolutely bottled the last 8 weeks & Xaka also fell off the pace
Liverpool have fell off the cliff again & that's down to the shit midfield they have
Chelsea well even I would get into that shambolic team
Newcastle, I recon Eddy Howe plays Calvin
Around October time & Pre world cup he decided to have the shoulder operation which gave him little chance of breaking into the City team, by the time he got fit Pep had already decide especially after some poor performances that Rodri wasn't going to be left out
Winning the league again from the position City were in then come on who was right?
Aresnal will end up 2nd with nothing to show for it, is it a good season well yes when the dust settles, could have been so different if that midfield had stood up for the 9 games that mattered
Nevermind always next year

There seems to a weird trend of Arsenal fans coming to this forum to try to convince us about how good or ambitious they are. First it was about how their first half season form was no fluke. And that they were the real deal. Now it's about how much signings (or Declan Rice) wants to join them, and how ambitious they are going to be in the transfer market.

Is this an Arsenal thing?

Insecurity mate

By your reckoning Guimaraes is 27 (in November) and came into this league at 26 with no knowledge to most people. A players value is dependant on the length of their contract, sell on values are pretty irrelevant. You didn't put the valuation on Saliba to give us a chuckle I notice. Please give it soon because I am setting off for Brentford and would like to set off with a big grin on my face. Also, put a value on (soon to be) 23 year old Phil Foden and (soon to be 22 year old) Saka.

Foden is worth about 150m. Although no club would bid because they know you would never sell. Likewise Saka
