Declan Rice

Have to say not really a good look for us if he goes to Arsenal

Top target Bellingham seemingly never wanted to come when Madrid were interested.

Captain leaves on a free turning down a contract with a couple of days notice so need for a CM becomes critical.

Back up target picks some 3rd rate team over us who he’s had terms agreed with for months.

Doesn’t strike me as massively prepared.
I don't, like I have mention several times the last weeks/months on this forum, rate Rice particularly high and don't think he is worth 100m. But it would certainly not be a good look missing out on a player the club clearly wants to a team that hasn't even played CL football in like a decade. Especially not after missing out on our first choice and having our captain turn down the offer for an extension.

Which is why I expect the club will get this deal over the line. Tolmie dropped the first news about us bidding less than 48 hours ago and some people are already giving up just because some Arsenal and other "ITK" twitter accounts are in denial and/or coming out with "news" to cover why their previous statements about Rice pretty much being a done deal to Arsenal turned out to be false. Like I said, I dont really rate Rice but Txiki and Pep obviously does and its no way we lose out on a 100m player we want to a club like Arsenal. Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Bayern or Liverpool? Sure, that could happen. Arsenal? No way.

I'm not sure many were saying that. Pre season most rival fans and media didn't even have Arsenal as finishing in the top 4, never mind being title winners.
So the fact they help turn us into a title challenging team, I'd argue brought a winning mentality of sorts, just not enough against the juggernaut that is City just now.

True of sorts. You should have won the prem but the squeaky bum pressure got to you. You've got to conquer that fear of being caught.

I work with 2 arsenal fans, they are decent guys and I speak with a few that are clients. They all grew in confidence early on and thanked us for sending you Gabby and Zin. We had made a mistake letting them go.

Watch a couple of your games towards the end of the season, when you were behind against southampton I think. Zin was the man trying to gee up the players. He was never that guy at City.

If you get Rice you'll improve, havertz ? maybe he'll help too but first and foremost seek players to form a mentally strong collective who have an absolute steely desire to stand up and be counted when the going gets tough. You're slick and easy on the eye but lack a bit of that courage to take the next step at this stage of your development.

Perhaps we won't get another midfield and will just get Kovacic and Gvardiol.

City don't rush things if they can't get the right player.
If we loose Laporte and Gundo, and keep bernardo with a pay rise will Kovacic and Gvardiol be enough to go again?

Well I bet it’s a barrel of laughs in your house.

ffs….little City have become Treble winners in 15 years, yes we aren’t massively prepared are we?

give me fucking strength ycnmiu

Phillips naff, Lewis needs more experience mcatee unproven silva do I stay or do I go, de bru seen better days
Phillips isn’t naff at all, and even if he was, he’s still good enough to play with McAtee and Lewis against Barrow in the fourth round of the EFL Cup to give all the others a rest.

We went a full season playing without a striker and won the league. We don’t particularly need an ELEVENTH player who can play in midfield for us over the season.

We probably only hit our top targets on a 60:40 basis. Many don’t materialised because they don’t fancy City or Manchester or we won’t pay them or their clubs enough. Some of our top targets we don’t even put a bid in for.

We’ve missed out on:
Berbatov
Kaka
Isco
Messi
Falcao
Pogba
Jorginho
Fred
Sanchez
Koulibaly
Cucurella
Kane
Bellingham
… and probably the same number of players again twice over that I just can’t remember off the top of my head.

Then we’ve lost:
Zabaleta
Yaya
Kompany
Sané
DSilva
Agüero
Fernandinho
Gündoğan

… and not one of those we’ve missed out on or lost has made us look bad nor hindered us in achieving success.

Yea you can't sign everyone you go for but usually when we miss out on someone it's not being able to agree a fee with the selling club etc.

Normally we don't go for players unless they are 100% committed to sign for us, usually to the point nobody else goes for them.

Under this regime Txiki, Berrada and Soriano so summer 2014 onwards, if it gets into the window and there is a bidding war we generally walk away and brief that we aren't interested, (Haaland was a release clause and done before the season finished)

To have 3 high profile players 2 potential signings 1 club captain with an expiring deal to turn down our public pursuits and sign for someone else is not something you see much at all, last time was probably Dani Alves?
