Declan Rice

Fair enough but it makes zero sense. Would suggest the exact opposite as a strategy makes more sense, let Arsenal think we won’t go that high and get the deal done before they can up their offer. Bottom line I think both clubs know what West Ham want and they can sit back and wait if Rice is happy to go to either until one club walks away. Personally think it’s more likely we walk unless we include Phillips as we have done before and a) would need to convince Phillips and b) tend to move on quickly if deal overpriced
So we agree to disagree. It makes sense to me. I hope we get a deal done and Phillips is part of the package, which I think will be a win, win situation. I personally do not see Phillips as a City player (and not under Pep).

TBH Philip's positive attitude suggests to me someone who will know when it's time to listen. If Gareth even hints at him needing playing time, and City level that it's not on the agenda, staying would be negative.

Now, there's surely something cooking in our midfield, post Gundo. We can't just keep ferrying players in from other positions. Last year a tonne of people backed Grealish to move infield. Never happened. Now everyone reckons it's Foden's destiny. Disagree. Foden is perhaps the best RW we could get. We've never seen him play in earnest alongside KDB. And it would still leave us short in numbers. We've ended up covering those positions with other players - it started with Bernie, and it just kept going. Stones being the latest.

When does the penny drop? Gundo has left partly because he is shagged from being there all the time. KDB was forced to play for months despite being very, very shagged. Bernie is still unsettled. We. Need. Midfielders. Kovacic will never be enough.

That Philips was behind everyone else really says a lot. Decent player but never one for Pep. He wants far too much space before he shows that passing range. Pep requires players to get in and out of tight spaces, like all our other midfielders. Even Stones.

Having said the need is great - I don't think Rice is the one. Pep will want a better ball player. We'll dig another one out - Wirtz, Szoboslai, many other possibilities.

If things have developed then completely fair enough mate- i appreciate these situations can change. He just seemed convinced he’d be staying next season.
No reason to doubt he was being entirely genuine when he made those public comments and also to your own source.

I was heartened to see him saying he wasn't going to give up and cited Jack's own first year problems in settling in.

West Ham don't want to sell to Arsenal and Moyes wants Phillips as his replacement, making it clear that there is a starting spot for him there.

They'd prefer less money and Phillips, but City won't push him out the door or pay the £110m in cash.

Arsenal are sat holding their dick in their hands and don't want to up the ante if they don't have to.

All the while, I have to believe there is a small part of Rice who fancies the deal to us, otherwise this whole bluff and counter is entirely irrelevant.

My info this year also included Gvardiol and Kovacic, even the Rice back-up to Bellingham, but I wouldn't like to call this one.

Too many variables.

Seriously? TH has a good track record going back years on here.

Battle of the ITK’s? I don’t think so. There are lots of opinions on here and, by the law of averages, some will be correct, but that’s not a reliable source it’s someone who has a mate that is something to do with City who thinks he knows something…. at best. Id hope the bar is a bit higher than that. If it isn’t then there are hundreds on here.

TH saw Haaland’s insurance documents with City. That’s as good as it gets on BM.
No doubt!

Tolmie is beyond reproach.

Keeps this place ticking over with his valuable info. Nobody is disputing his status.

ITKgatha Christie all over again.

Where do you want your statue @tolmie's hairdoo ? -:)

Top post mate, and why I mentioned Odegarrd before City need to find an elite midfielder to keep our control of being the elite team about. YAYA, silva, Fernandinho, gundogan, possibly bernado and next will be KDB. The likes of Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice are very good players, however are not in the same bracket as the others mentioned.

Yeah I totally agree. I doubt Kalvin is even in the top 5 best DMs in world football and I’m not sure he has the ability to play as a number 8. His reading of the game isn’t good enough and his passing isn’t either. As Pep has said, he can teach people, but unfortunately he doesn’t have the time if someone is too far behind.
Seems to me he was like this at Leeds, just a good honest pro as they use to say - does a job in a side battling away but just is not a good enough player to play at elite level..99% of pros aren't so no shame - but just a rare bad assessment from our analysts etc - imagine the data they usually troll through and hours of videos - maybe this one slipped through the usual impeccable due diligence - strange but possibly true - as many like me scratch our heads from the huff and puff we saw on MOTD for Leeds - never a City type

Yes long story supported sheff wed since a nipper don't follow as much now because of owner. Followed city years ago love the football, love pep greatest coach of all time and to see them shit on manu is heaven and of course the rest is great. Been to city lots of times, had friends in hospitality so got in free to lots of matches. Actually retired now and live on a narrowboat, cruising around but still follow city
Ask @Sir peace frog his last and only experience from his canal boat holidays, it will make you blush and what a hero when I dropped the lock key into the “cut”

What's life like on a narrow boat?

We would never say we don't want a player (unless Cancelo!!)

It's more subtle than that, saying won't stand in way of players getting more regular game time.

Tell someone they are unwanted, you also end up paying up their deals to leave.
I can see this but only a fool could fail to catch the drift. We can, and Phillips and his guys are way closer to the detail

Don't doubt your info 100 per cent for a second, bud.

Things have moved very quickly in the last couple of days, however.

He has spoken to a couple of people and the landscape may well have changed.

City won't push him out the door, but he's also be informed that they will not stand in his way and he now has a couple of serious offers to digest.

Well aware what might be right on Monday could be entirely different by Tuesday.

No doubt he doesn't want to throw the towel in, but he's now mulling over some concrete stuff.

I don't think it's cut and dried he stays, even if it's not West Ham.
This is always the thing with transfers, some just don't seem to grasp that things can change very quickly.
