Declan Rice

Though I wasn't convinced Rice was the player to get, I wish City would sometimes not give a shit about the Net-Spend trophy and the criticism of our spending, not give a fuck and just blow them all away.

The club has earned the money.
I was convinced that Rice was the player to get but we have to accept that the club has a different way of conducting transfers which has served us well previously.

Having said that, we are now treble winners which gives us a certain level of kudos which is great, but also means we are now there to be shot at, not just domestically but also in Europe.

In my opinion we have two main issues to address, we can't keep on running Rodri into the ground and we have the persistent rumours that Bernardo wants away. We also have the hugely influential KDB picking up injuries and not getting any younger, plus Mahrez sulking about lack of game time. These are issues that won't be fixed on the cheap.

Maybe this should justify a change in policy to keep the advantage we've taken? As you say, we've earned that right?

The club clearly think not, so we just have to trust them.

Average Premier league player, not elite level, I hope he proves me wrong but I can't see it happening and I simply don't think pep trusts him.

Heard all the stories about him coming good this season, again it would amaze me, several of our signing underwhelmed early doors but their quality was always there (Bernardo, Grealish, Ake) not sure we have seen anything from Phillips.
I will be amazed if Phillips turns it around at city ,just can't see it happening .
I don't think he has got a quick reaction football brain to assess situations on the spot .
Rodri ain't quicker than him physically, but his football brain is .
What i noticed when he has got minutes he passes the ball then switches off for a second ,then moves into position to receive the ball if needed,he's not alert.
He looked like a person who doesn't believe he belongs at the club .
Hope he proves me wrong but like i said just can't see it .

This was used as a reason for not buying him for £100m. However, when the stats were drilled down, over the previous two seasons Jack had by far the most progressive carries leading to key passes, which may or may not become an assist dependent on whether the attack resulted in a goal or not.

The crucial work he does generally goes under the radar, but it's vital to the build up. In this respect, Grealish is unique, hence a £100m transfer was sanctioned.
The hierarchy wanted him and his release clause was 100M. That’s why 100M was sanctioned. But just because that’s what was paid doesn’t equate to whether he’s worth that. Also, because he was part of the treble winning team also doesn’t mean he was worth that fee.

I’m not saying that he’s not contributing. He has done this year. His ball retention is very good and there are other attributes that he brings. What I’d argue is that it’s not 100M worth. I would expect more end product from someone that plays in his position for that sum of money, that’s all.

The disrespect Grealish still gets from our own fans never mind the media considering the season weve just had and the part he played in that is just mind boggling.
Mate, it’s not disrespect because I have a different opinion to you. You think he’s worth the 100M we paid, I don’t.

I actually think that his contributions have been overstated by some in the media and on this forum. Post World Cup he had 2-months where he stood out. At a time when the Team needed players to step up. So he’s definitely contributed to the achievements of the Team. I think his end to the season was pretty ordinary.

I like him as a player and I like him as a member of the Team. I just don’t think he’s 100M value worth. And I don’t think Rice is either. We’ll have to agree to disagree.
