Demichelis

Not impressed. I'd expect the average defender to do such things even against the likes of Madrid.

There has to be a better option than this fella. Every time I have watched him he looks like a liability. I'd rather we had kept Kolo Toure.

I've read today that Atletico won't let him go for free, they want 5m € and what is more Pellegrini said that he is very happy with the squad and that this is it as far as spending goes. I guess that we will let Sinclair go on loan and finish our moves in or out for now.

I think this type of transfer sums up our transfer policy, good sensible additions that add to our teams needs rather than pursuing Hollywood signings that don't necessarily fit the team dynamic.

I'm happy with this approach.

Also it won't stunt Nasty's progress, there's about 50+ games to play so we need more defenders to help meet the demands of league and cups

He helped Bayern get to the CL final in 2010 didn't he?

You meant Bayern got to the CL final in spite of Demichelis?

Demichelis in between has very good matches - but he is not consistent.
I'll take your opinion on him since you will have seen him play live for five/six seasons. Being inconsistent may suit us and him as he'd be a back-up centre half with Nastasić and Kompany as first choice so wouldn't play all the time and wouldn't have to get in a rut through playing all the time.

Although I've seen him numerous times on tele, I've only thought he was good a few times. So I'm glad you posted to confirm that in saying he's inconsistent.

I'd say he was consistent last season - he made La Liga's team of the year ahead of Varane, Godin, Pique, Ramos and Pepe - and his performances domestically and in Europe were lauded. I watched a fair few Malaga games and they always looked solid defensively until after the Dortmund loss when their season seemed to end prematurely and they lost form/ran out of steam. His lack of pace could be an issue but as the video of him against Real Madrid shows, his positioning is very good so he is often in positions already. His performance against Dortmund in the 0-0 draw leg was out of this world. He made 18 clearances that day and was MotM.

Pellegrini has the Midas touch with these older players who seem past it. If Maicon was just joining us now and stayed fit, he'd probably have a good season under Pellegrini.

He possesses similar physical attributes to Mertesacker. Make of that what you will.

Like Mertesacker, he also reads the game very well and has already proven himself capable of playing in a system with a high line. I'd probably rather him than silly money on Pepe.
Mertesacker endured a shit first season, iirc.
