Because not every signing is "marquee". This signing is sensible, he was voted as one of the best CB's in la liga and to correct you he IS a CB who can play DM.

And your original statement of how Bayern couldn't wait to get rid of him is just absurd. Have a look at how many years he was at Bayern. They had plenty of chances to get rid of him if they wanted.

He wont be first choice but what great experience to call on if needed.
