Solid enough defender, who will provide good cover. What I don't understand though, if we are intending to persist with the high defensive line thing, is why we're buying a centre half who couldn't outpace Lescott........

Playing an high line is a matter of right positioning not of pace; if you are chasing your opponent it's because something went wrong

Bizarre. Might as well have kept Kolo.
What are you basing that on? He played very well for Malaga in the Champions League games which is presumably why Pellegrini is looking at him

Kolo struggled at Premiership level and was at best a squad player

He could be basing it on Kolo was brilliant last season, can you name one mistake Kolo made last year? what's wrong with having a "squad player"? Chelsea, Arsenal, the rags have all had "squad players"

And I reckon that at least 50% of the goals we concede are from set pieces, or set pieces that haven't been properly cleared. High line or not, we still need a physical presence in our penalty area, especially when VK is out.

I think the issue with Kolo was his wages, he'll have been on £100k or so a week, which is a hell of a lot for a backup centre half. No idea what Liverpool are paying him, but his wages will still be pretty high.

And so far, it has been Vincent who has been caught out ballwatching anyhow.

Vincemt has his faults but Lescott is in grave need of his leadership, Lescott has to be lead.

That makes no sense to me at all. By playing a high line you run the risk of a pacy striker getting behind you no matter what your positional sense is. How do you plan to counter it then, blocking ?
