Democrat US Presidential Nominations

You keep chuntering on about a 'socialist' and keep refusing to understand, nay, acknowledge that people are beginning to understand that 'socialism' equals a trillion dollar giveaway amongst other things. Let's just agree to disagree on it.

But, what I will say is Trump will come undone by his own hands.
Look Bigga - I admire your gumption. You're sticking to your guns no matter the criticism.

But, quite honestly, why on earth do you think you're more in touch with the feelings of American voters as a non-citizen - who has never lived in the USA - over someone born and raised in the states?

I keep telling you that socialism is viscerally disliked by virtually all Americans who are not far left - including centrist Democrats.

You keep ignoring this point.

Yanks equate socialism with communism.

Shitgibbon already has the upper hand in the next presidental election by labelling the Dems a socialist party. That's why they have to be bob on with who is nominated to take him on.

Pretty much this - any socialist running against Trump in 2020 has an enormous challenge ahead of her/him.

I for, one, might very well *NOT* vote for a socialist if that's the alternative to Trump - and I goddamn well hate Trump with every fiber of my being.

But try to explain this to Bigga... good fucking luck.

Because there's a correlation in the politics of both countries.

Because democratic socialism is NOT communism.

Because more and more people like the idea of universal healthcare.

Because people want a fairer tax system/ be paid more.

Because [young] people are looking to save their environment.

All points, excluding healthcare that relates.

So, explain why there's a CHASM in politics, right now, between right and left ideology?

Explain why it's hard to bridge the gap with a centrist view point?

Explain why all the leading Dem politicians have taken a step LEFT in trying win the vote to challenge #45?

I know the secret neolibs in that group will abandon the left stance in the run up, but that doesn't explain why they're left NOW, does it, if they were confident in their centrist position.

I'm pretty confident Sanders will be in the final of the leadership.

It's challengers we wait on.

There isn't.

There is a chasm between those hopeless, angry and desperate enough about their uncertain and potentially eroding place in a global society that has passed them by that they'll join a cult -- whether led by a magic man in the US, or proffering a magic idea in the UK -- and everyone else who isn't, and views snake oil and snake oil salespeople with justifiable skepticism.

I should note as I've said before -- the hopeless, angry and desperate have in some cases, a right to feel that way. I'd quibble with their solution to their ills. And those who reject snake oil out of hand should not therefore dismiss all of the worries/concerns of those who buy it.

That's exactly what it is, what makes things worse are the people who just can't accept that people don't think like they do, no matter how hard they try to some people just end up othering the people they disagree with. A big orange celebrity is president of the united states because of the state of the politics in the USA, and it doesn't look like the democrats have finished selling snake oil and put a real person front and center to lead them.

It's not enough to just attack Trump because he'll win again, he needs to be countered with real policies by real politicians,

In this case, I think just attacking Trump is what they should do. He demonstrated enough potential disregard for the constitution that painting him as a danger is probably their best bet to win. It's all about turnout. More people hate him than like him. If everyone turns out, Democrats win. If the alternative offered is someone that galvanizes Republican hatred (as Clinton was) or dampens Democratic turnout due to a stringent ideology outside a standard deviation from the middle, Trump could win. Is Sanders that outside-the-norm candidate? I don't know -- I'd guess not, but I'm not sure yet. Is Warren? Yes, which is why she loses.

Warren would be a nightmare, the political landscape in the USA and in the UK is desolate.

I've spoken with many people who voted for Trump and one thing I'm noticing with the more intelligent ones is a desire to get away from the two party system so intrenched in the country. I think this is a trend we'll be seeing way more of in the future and I'd put money on at least one other very rich, successful business man or woman running as an independent being in the fray in 2020

I can never understand how America calls itself the greatest democracy in the world when the collegiate system seems anything but, to me.

I know you don’t go for proportional representation in Britain either, and it hasn’t sorted our two party system out here in Ireland either, but it seems far more democratic to me.
