Sanders should run because he'd win. Harris shouldn't run because she might and she doesn't need her inevitable 8 year run to be tainted by the state the world is in right now. She should hold off, the future is bright for her but she can achieve more if she waits for the inevitable Trump backlash left leap to be finished. Clinton has got a better chance of winning Socialist of the Year than she does the US Presidency.

The various businessmen and shady lawyers who think they've got a shot are surely posturing and have the same chance as I do of beating Trump.

I might agree on Harris should be holding off.

If I remember rightly she was in favour of the death penalty 4 years ago. I think she fought for it as a prosecutor, even.

So, if that's the case now is too early for her and shed be ripped to shreds on it.

Sanders has a chance and is probably the best of the field.

And if that's the case, then the US is turning left more than it thinks.

The worst possible outcome is that
1) a socialist emerges as the Democratic nominee - I'm massively anti-Trump, but, I, like many Americans, would think twice before voting for a socialist;
2) a left-leaning candidate runs as a independent - siphoning off votes from whoever is the Democratic nominee.

It's close enough as to whether a Democrat will win or lose the 2020 election - Trump will solidify his base once more going into the presidential vote. Gerrymandering and the Electoral College are already in favor of Trump.

So - as a rabid anti-Trumper, I fervently hope that a sympathetic/liked/reasonable - dare I say charismatic? - centrist Democrat runs and that any independent is right-leaning.

Imagine how much of an extreme socialist you'd have to be to actually be worse than Trump as well. Unfortunately it's more likely to go like this -
