Definitely sour grapes there, & it sounds very much as if Pellegrini was testing his enthusiasm & he failed.

But he's got a point about the academy players being superceded. Great that Garcia scored tonight & he's a potential star, but he had no right to be in that squad. Not been good enough.

Fully agree with this. Garcia has been ok, nothing more, in the games he's played for the EDS and 19s CL this season. Barker should've been brought on last night and I can imagine he's becoming frustrated with his lack of playing time atm.

Really doesn't help though when we make Barker sit out of the under21s game on Monday to sit on our bench for the full 90 minutes last night

Zabaleta's enforced change may have had something to do with that.

I was looking at the thread on Redcafe about him. Maybe surprisingly, most on there have very little sympathy with him. Yes, a few are having digs at our youth setup, but you'd expect that. The majority of them are of the opinion that it's sour grapes, and that if he was good enough, he'd have got his chance.

When they were given a chance with the first team over the summer Garcia with the first team was head and shoulders above Barker. Garcia looked after Kelechi by far the best of our young players when alongside Silva etc

He played a few cute passes & missed a few easy chances which Barker would score with his eyes shut. Since when do we judge their performances on friendly games pre season rather than the effort they put in all season, over more than one season ? It then follows that apart from those who went on the pre season tour, nobody else has a hope of getting a chance ahead of any of those. And why have we let Evans go out on loan, in that case, seeing as he has produced several excellent performances for the first team & scored goals ?

The players should be judged on their ongoing performances. Kelechi proved himself instantly at EDS level. Garcia hasn't, & should be behind about 6 or 7 players in the queue for a first team opportunity, based on his performance. He has been 'fast tracked' without performing at a level to deserve it.

It's nothing to do with nationality, if he's good enough he'll get his chance. As for Devante Cole, The only reason he was at city for so long was because he was Andy cole's son. He was shite when he was younger and I bet there were loads of lads in Manchester alone who were better than him. He Should've got released a lot sooner.

I agree,Garcia is a fantastic prospect who can wow a crowd but recently his game has gone downhill a tad,he certainly hasn't done anything to warrant the promotion.......yet kean Bryan who is impressing and sustaining a high standard playing in a couple of positions doesnt seem to be any nearer the first team......strange indeed,especially when a player with Bryans attributes could be incredibly useful right now.

Probably thinks Garcia has the higher ceiling, Barker needs a loan now more than the odd cup game anyway.

Barker 100% definitely deserves a chance over Garcia, and I really like Garcia. So do a few so far, as Garcia definitely hasn't ever been the star at any level. Always looked highly promising, but usually the supporting cast. Yes, Garcia may look good in training, and yes he does have a bright future, but there are numerous EDS players doing more than him at the moment who could quite fairly feel a little jealous...

Barker, Maffeo, Bryan etc spring to mind. Even Celina does much more in EDS games, as does Ambrose.

Ideally, all would have made their debut so far anyway, and justifiably so.
