Devante Cole: "City don't care about English kids"

I've never said they would make it. Just that they deserved the opportunity to have a go & would have been perfectly able to come on & do so.

You are completely wrong about Pep at Barca. He used about 15-20 academy kids in his time there, most of whom nobody has heard of since but a few we have. They still won stuff & played great football. The idea using kids costs a club, is nonsense made up by people on here.

So the league statics are wrong too? He gave 3 debuts in his first season, the three I've referenced, 3 with senior experience.

He gave way more than 3 players their debut in his first season - Thiago, Jeffren, Muniesa & Botia for example

Come on, they all made their debuts in May after the title was won.

My point, yes Pep will integrate youth, but only those good enough will have careers.

Counting minutes at the end of a season when the league is won isn't much different Han counting pre season tours.

His side was mainly made up of seasoned pro's. Only a few made debuts that lead to a career.

Alberto Botia, interesting chap.
Played 26 minutes for Barcelona in La Liga. The last 26 minutes of the season away at Depor.
Sat on the bench and unused for the home match in the Champions League group match against Donetsk, they lost. Willian played for Donetsk.
Boria walked away with a winners medal for the CL, La Liga and Copa del Rey.
The treble for 26 minutes work, not bad.
At Olympiakos now.

Exactly this. I sometimes think that this point is missed quite often.

To put it another way, the real reason for the Academy is to generate money that can be fed back into the club to buy better players. Generating 1-2 first team players every 5 years would be great, but the vast majority won't make it at City. Say we have 20 players each year coming through the Academy, 50% of whom have a future in professional football; half of these sell for next to nothing or maybe even up to half-a-million, and two or three of them sell for £1-3million, and maybe one or two even go for £5-10 million. That's £10-30 million revenue that can help balance the accounts when buying players in, and it's effectively "free" money in the eyes of FFP, as I'm pretty sure the costs of running the Academy and developing players does not count as a club expense. So in reality, it's a round-about way of pumping additional funds into the club. And on top of that, we have a chance of developing a world-beater every now-and-then.
I don't believe the club sees the academy in this way at all. Would be extremely disappointing if that was the case.

Every time I see this thread title I hear Michael Jackson "they don't really care about us" haha

The reason we have the academy is to get players into the first team, not only that but 'in the near future'. We are planning on a core of the first team coming through from the academy. This is the stated aim by the chairman, the head of development & by the captain of the first team.

And it's bollocks to say that title chasing teams don't use homegrown players. They all do & always have. It's City & Chelsea who are out of step with that, not everyone else.

All of the top sides in the world, use academy players. That doesn't mean they are first choice or all play at the same time, but they ALL use them.

Name the title chasing teams that are currently playing academy players regularly in the first eleven in England ,(or perhaps you watched the class of '92 fairy tale , based on events from 25 years ago), and i am not interested in other "top sides in the world" , la liga , ligue 1 , bundesliga etc., because PSG ,Barca , Real and Bayern could field their respective U-21 sides and finish in the top 2 positions in their leagues.

It looks like Cole will disappear into his own big mouth soon, probably end up in non league football. We gave top English talent a chance and they proved not good enough and were moved on and none of them have ripped up any trees anywhere else in spite of a lot of them getting plenty of playing time elsewhere.

You probably see 3 or 4 top 4 quality English players come through in the space of 10 years, the 90's it was Scholes, Beckham and Owen. The 00's it was Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney now in the 2010's it's only Sterling and Kane I can think of that are top 4 club quality.

Nonsense Terry, Hart, Cole, Campbell, Shearer to name a few.
