Did Mancini hold us back?

I am honestly astounded and disgusted at the animosity most of you seem to have for Mancini. You certainly aren't the ones who stood in the South Stand and sang his name week in week out are you?
Someone said on here "that's what the neutrals are saying." I couldn't give a flying shite about the neutrals, I only care about City. Someone else said, "now we have a competent manager ManUre and Chelski are crappin themselves." What in Christ's name are you talking about? Are they experts in the study of Mancini's management shortcomings? Who had the upper hand in one to ones between us and these 2 under Roberto's tenure? I suppose you've all suffered mass amnesia about the 1-6 & 1-2 at OT and the cup semi final against both these. (I don't count the loss at Eastlands 'cos somebody should've taken one in the face for the cause!)
Don't get me wrong, Pellegrini may be the man to win us the CL and who knows what else (although I was always a firm believer in the players on the pitch actually doing that) and but for a mad, or more appropriately, naive 15 minutes that night at the Bernabau maybe we'd have had the confidence from that to kick on through the group stages and Mancini may have been safe.
Finally I really do worry about what might happen with this new lovey-dovey holistic approach when confronted by egos the size of China!! Food for thought??

I sang his name every trip over I made... And I appreciate that his drive to win was a factor helping us make the transition to winners. I also saw Mancini's shortcomings and realized that he was preventing us from growing as a club - dependent on having a blank cheque book to keep replenishing the team, and highly ineffective as a man manager or coach or team member with the broader executive team. He was a tactician who presumed that every player would play at their best - but he drove many out, picked the wrong fights, and refused to grow or adapt or heed the advice of anyone else, including expert scouts, academy coaches, and his medical team. Mancini's bull headed insistence on buying Balotelli and Dzeko over the objections of the much maligned Marwood and our scouts is probably the biggest factor in why we couldn't buy Van Persie, for example. It's not about being tough or having high standards, it's about going to war with people - Boateng, Tevez, Cook, Marwood, Dzeko, the scouts, the medical team, Balotelli...I don't have any animosity towards Mancini, and resent the notion that I'm being petty or idiotic. I just love City, and want the best for City and can be thankful Mancini came, and thankful he has left.

That near enough sums up my point of view on the subject. He has played his part and rightly is being thanked by the fans and then we move on.

Very well said Austin Blue.

I agree almost entirely. I also think there would have been more battles this off season which may even have resulted in the unecessary departure of great players otherwise completely committed to City's cause.

the title season began with champagne football, RM could do no wrong
Teams that attacked us were put to the sword
but problems with teams that stone-walled became the norm, and we faltered, and were not convincing if we did not score first.
If there was a plan B, it was too subtle for me and others to understand. I would say that was a short-coming, even so there was no hint of dressing-room unrest (tevez apart).
The european results were very damaging to RM, not so much the results but the manner of the defeats, tactics were naive, painfully so.
This season, domestically teams have learned to cope with us from day one, hence the much lower goal return, and yet we still kept banging on a locked door with the same formation. RM has too many times blamed, publicly, Marwood's failure to sign RvP, for our failure to keep up with the rags. Being right, although a moot point, did not excuse the failure to get the best out of a talented squad, and certainly his constant mention of it did not go down well with the board. Europe was a repeat of the first and yes we nearly beat Madrid, but truthfully they battered us, Dortmund and Ajax swept us away. Our tactics were at fault, and gave ammunition to those who said he is a failure in Europe.
It is possible that this group of players and Roberto himself have peaked, in which case he hasn't held us back, a view i am beginning to believe in.

People don't seem to be accepting that Mancini has fucked up in many areas that forum posters are not privy to knowing or witnessing. Obviously his utter failures in Europe are part of the reasoning to relieve him of control but I think, just perhaps, the board saw into the future and with the current state of affairs, situation with the playing group... PROGRESSION was not going to happen!! I do not think the players run the club at all, but I am 110% satisfied the decisions made were done in the name of progression and the bettering of MCFC.

Another point... How would you think Mancini would go with a club like... Everton? Do you think he would extract the best of what he has and be able to function at that level with the funds he would have/not have at his 'disposal'?<br /><br />-- Fri May 17, 2013 2:59 pm --<br /><br />

Most of this is spot on.

This.

The worst thing that could happen is if they sack him and hire a tactically sound manager.

If we hire Mourinho, suddenly ragcafe would decide he's shite and overrated.

We were not held back by Mancini. He took us as far as he could in my opinion and we were wise to make the break as we move to a new phase. That's the long and short of it.

Talksport are not wanting to hear all the spanish pundits saying he is a great man manager who can cope with big egos and is tactically top class.
they wanted to hear he wont cope and will be out the door within weeks

HAHA i do agree that united are worried two of my rag mates who go home and away have already said they are not looking forward to next season with both us and Chelsea and even to a certain extent Arsenal all spending big dollar and hopefully knocking them out the top 4 which would be brilliant
