Did Mancini hold us back?

You fickle prats all seem to have forgotten what Mancini did for us!
I don't care about holistic (that's going bite us up the arse for years to come by the way!) Was Cloughie holistic? No, but he was arrogant, confrontational, his own man, a winner.....wait a minute..........??
Did Roberto "lose the dressing room?" Certainly didn't look like that to me when we stuffed ManUre at OT and Chelsea in cup semi only a few weeks ago. What do you think?
Yes some big players didn't turn up on Saturday, they know who they are and need to look in the mirror, but don't anyone tell me that the leakage about Mancini's impending dismissal on that very morning didn't affect the players because it bloody well did!
If anyone deserved another crack then it was Mancin
Good luck for the future Roberto, you'll never be forgotten!!

This is the best first post on the forum I have ever read.

Well written but wrong. You can use Clough as an example, but was Leeds right to fire Clough when they did? Yes. Clough learned from that situation, but he got himself into a mess at Leeds by a combination of naivety and stubbornness.

And if the leak meant that Mancini was unable to get the team up to play in the FA Cup, then he is a really crap leader. Any half decent leader would have used that to his advantage, found an angle to use it as motivation. It's us against the world. Chaps, I can't go on, but this was never about me.. it's about your place in history. About the City fans who will sing your name... etc etc. If it made Mancini go into a shell and fold up, then Mancini has truly been exposed as a fraud who can only manage with a blank check book in front of him when no-one else is writing any checks.

Of course he didn't hold us back.

He did a great job for us and I suspect that some of you will start to realize just what a god job he did when the next guy comes in.

-- Thu May 16, 2013 6:20 am --

If the players really need that much motivation for a cup final at Wembley and can't be bothered to put in a performance, then sadly it is they who are the frauds.

Mancini has managed to win trophies with every club he as been at. Wealthy and broke.

He didn't do that good a job. You can see how our level of play has slowly regressed over the past 18 months or so.

Mancini will go on to win things somewhere else.

44 years without a title before Mancini. Did he hold us back?

Stupid question.

Spot on.

Irrelevant, 44years without a title isn't a basis for an argument, yes he stopped the rot but he was working with players like Kompany & Aguero not a Kernaghan or Heath. With the squad at his disposal during his time here did he get the best out of the team, should we have won more trophies? Think we all know the answer to that!

As for him being incompetent ... In two separate seasons he stated that he underestimated the opposition and failed to prepare his team properly. Il not go as far to say he was incompetent (just imply it) but il say this, its better to be lucky than good & in my opinion he wasn't the latter.
Scrutinize his managerial career more & It's glaringly obvious, just take the city job for instance he landed on his feet, solid building blocks put in place by Hughes & a warchest to boot whoever was getting the job after M.H has to be considered a lucky son of a ..

I only believe we won those last six games last year because his hand was forced with bans & injuries, was one of the few times we had a stable first team because he couldn't meddle again lucky barsteward.

Still have a soft spot for him regardless.

Not the best tactically and he was far from perfect but you cannot question is love and desire to win for our club. You could see it in his interview last Saturday he looked distraught when some of the players looked like they didn't give a toss. His desire and passion to do well by us would have grown over the coming seasons.

We aren't going to get anywhere if we keep chopping and changing, people say look at Chelsea but is that the type of club you want to support? Plus they have always had the basis laid down by Mourinho which can be felt even today. Mancinis legacy here is not quite up there with Joses at Chelsea.

Oops.

As we seem to disagree strongly on Mancini's chances going forward, it looks like one of us had better change our moniker!

He didn't hold us back. IMO he took us as far as he could.

He took what Hughes had messed up, steadied the ship and took us to where we wanted to be but was unable to kick on from there.

He was tactically spot on in the big domestic games but fell short when needing to adapt his tactics against 'lesser' opponents (and in Europe) with his stubborness playing a big part in this. It also became clear in recent weeks that he'd lost the respect of the majority of the squad.

We'll always have fond memories of his time here and should he ever come back with another club he'll get the great reception he deserves.

I was a Mancini inner but I was aware of his faults/short-comings (and not privvy to what was going on behind the scenes). The powers that be, like us, want whats best for the club and have deemed a change in manager is required. We should get over ourselves and back them and the next man.

We replaced Hughes at the right time and I believe we've replaced Bobby at the right time too. I for one think we're about to embark on something even more special than the Mancini era.
