Did You Go Halifax Away In the FA Cup in 1980?

What about Wigan in the FA Cup Final? That defeat and the whole Mancini farce eclipsed the defeats at Halifax, Shrewsbury and against Spurs in the FA Cup final.
The Wigan defeat for me was no where near as bad. We had already been FA Cup and EPL winners in the previous years under Mancini.

I remember saying to my children whose first cup final it was, as Wigan fans rightly celebrated on the tube, let them enjoy their day as unlike us they won’t be back anytime soon

Losing cup finals will never be as bad as being relegated multiple times and the dark days of the third tier

Yes and Shrewsbury the season before , was convinced we couldn’t mess up two seasons on the bounce , shows what I know about football.

The wigan cup final wasn't in my to top 20 worst City defeats. I just shrugged it off as a bad day and looked forward to the future under a new manager.

Went to both Halifax and Shrewsbury..
Fucking jeans were ruined with the mud from the terrace at the Halifax game..
I remember after the game City fans splitting into two groups and running wild with coppers and dogs not sure which group to chase.
Was also at Blackpool when we also lost..but slight consolation was that Bournemouth beat the rags..
Fuck me we were shite at cup games weren't we.

Yes I did and as others have said Shrewsbury the year before theses are the times I remember to keep me grounded about what we have now.

Remember listening to it on the radio. Was so upset i just legged it out of the house. Mum came searching for me and found me about 2 miles up the road. Odd behaviour I know but I was only about 10 and City was everything to me. Loved the FA cup.

If I remember correctly we went on the service train to Blackpool that day , interesting early morning and afternoon in the pubs , even recall Chelsea waiting on the platform at Preston for City . Shit results but great trips .

The round before the Shrewsbury game in ‘79 was probably the only time I went to two games in two days at Maine Road.

We drew 0-0 with Rotherham on the Monday night after a series of postponements. And then on the Tuesday, Altrincham lost 3-0 to Tottenham in a third round replay, after a famous draw at White Hart Lane .

Yes. And Shrewsbury the year before. At least the following year was a bit more fun, even if it did end in tears.
Shrewsbury, went to the game, got home, switched on M of the Day to see if it really happened! David Coleman's commentary, those words still bring me out in a cold sweat, " and Futcher is having a nightmare ". 40+ years ago, will it ever end?

oh yes, what a fucking pitch, nowadays that wouldnt be allowed, was at the side of the pitch, and my mate went to help them to make sure game was on, always blamed him for the lost

I read a quote from Ray Ranson a few years ago and he said he still gets a shiver down his spine when he’s driving and sees a road sign for Halifax.

Foggy as hell on the way home.
when i was coming back from shrewsbury indeed it was very very foggy, iabout 6 miles out of shewsbury i decided to watch the white lines on the road, was going ok but comeing towards me was 2 cars next to each other with lights on, then 1 car got behind the other, the first car the man was waving at me to slow down so i did, got next to him and he said you do know you are on the wrong side of the duel carrageway, lucky theren was grass between both carrageways and went over that, funny that about 10 cars followed me the wrong way
