Didsbury

Alberts is and I know it takes big money. The Woodstock is a good venue; when I was denigrating the pubs, I was talking about the ones in the village itself.
I think Joseph Holt deserve a lot of credit for running a lot of working-class boozers that would otherwise be closed, but if one of their pubs is the best in an area as wealthy as Didsbury, that merely serves to further underline my point.

I suppose it depends on what you think qualifies a pub to be considered good. I like the Railway because it sells a decent pint, has a few TVs with the footie, occasionally has a live band and hasn’t been turned into a child friendly food outlet that sells overpriced craft beer like many of its neighbours. I’m sure there’s plenty of people who would disagree with my assessment of it being the best pub in the area but it’s all down to personal taste.

I wouldn't describe anywhere that is overly child friendly as a pub. For me, a pub should ultimately be somewhere for adults to meet and socialise exclusively with each other.

Agreed.
The Woodstock is more like a crèche than a pub sometimes.
Yeah, I think we’re singing off the same hymn sheet, save for our perspective on a Holts pub being the best in Didsbury. I’m anything but a pub snob, but an area as wealthy as Didsbury should have at least two outstanding pubs in the village alone. I would never describe any Holts pub I’ve been in as outstanding.

whereas I like the more sociable environment to have a casual chat over beers, which is probably why I like living there. Metropolitan and Woodstock are a nice environment, the Railway is a shithole in comparison.
