Pellegrini has done better than Rodgers' first season in charge at Liverpool imho. The likes of Gerrard, Sterling, Henderson were already at the club, both Sturridge and Coutinho were added in the January window in that season. They only finished 7th, were knocked out of the Europa League by Anzhi Makhachkala and ended up trophyless. Next season if we are following the same pattern with a group of players he trusts, then questions quite rightly need to be raised.

Not having that mate, Manuel inherited a squad far better than Liverpools, Hes a very very good young manager, garnished a strong winning mentality with a limited squad

Expensive yes, but in terms of depth in quality definitely not. It took Rodgers a season to work it out so at the very least give our current manager that length of time.

Unless he proves to be so completely out of his depth or just wrong for the club, almost any manager at any club should get a second season. I exclude Mark Hughes from that assessment but I gave him until the end of his first season before offering the opinion that, on balance, he should go. That was a very different situation: Hughes would never have got the job if ADUG had taken over before his appointment.

I'm pretty sure it was earlier this year (i.e. 2014) that I heard a Liverpool fan on 606 saying Rodgers should go.

Absolutely. He's been unlucky with injuries. My point is as injuries are somewhat unavoidable and rob you of your best 11 you should at least you play your best 11 when you can. He's an odd one with this. Like at West Ham away Negredo who was bang in form was still on the field when overall we were 9 nil up.

I must admit I wouldn't have played either Negredo or Aguero in that game

That was his worst decision, a gamble which had a huge impact on our season. Negredo was on fire and has been in effect lost to us since then. In mitigation, he rested other players like silva and yaya in the second half, if I remember correctly. His other mistake was to start with navas and not Milner at anfield. Hindsight is a wonderful thing of course.

But overall I'm totally convinced he's the right man for us. In fact , amongst the many city fans I know, everyone I consider to know their football feels the same.

You don't have to be a football genius to manage a top top club. Alex ferguson is proof of that. You need to be intelligent, sensible, sensitive and manipulative: a leader. I think he is all of these things so as long as he has the right players he will fulfil this club's ambitions. And our squad is excellent, and only a couple,of signings away from europe's best.

It doesn't matter how this season finishes, and I retain hope that the title is not lost, we have moved forward significantly in every single area, and that's enough to give him a mandate to carry on moulding the club his way.

I trust him totally to deliver the goods.

Why reply in such a patronising way ...... everyone is entitled to an opinion whether it's the same as you and your elite cronies or not.

I think most, if not all think he deserves another crack at it. But FFS, don't ever say that capital 1 cup win is anything other than adequate. If arsenal win FA cup and Chelsea the champions league our trophy return will be worst in top 4.

-- Mon Apr 21, 2014 5:08 pm --

I actually think Rodgers got lucky ...... most of the players playing well for liverpool weren't signed by Rodgers. If Suarez goes in summer I don't think liverpool will challenge next season.

you are right about the Anfield line up, where I disagree is the hindsight bit. I reckon the entire supporter base that follow city could have said before a ball is kicked that you don't there, at this stage of the season, with that starting 11.

I too think the title is still "on" and will to the very end. he must instil that in the players too in order to finish runners up.

then he can put that away and build on it next season.

Amongst the many City fans I know, not one person was ever daft enough to state that both Yaya and Zaba weren't good enough, so frankly David your self-inflated opinion of yourself and your mates is worth slightly less than fuck all.
Enjoy the game.

Mancini inherited a very good nucleus of players signed by Hughes, as has Pellegrini

But they have all improved under him. Henderson was crap before he took over. A total bust. Moving Gerrard into the deep lying play maker role has worked very well for them. He doesn't have the legs to play that more forward role. But would another manager have made that move? Most would stay with the status qua. Most pundits thought moving Suarez out wide to play Sturrage central would be disastrous. Has been a brilliant move. Not to mention how much crap he took for signing Sturrage in the first place. Signed Coutinho as well. Both have been brilliant. His other moves have been very suspect, can't argue with that.
