Nothing wrong with the tactics whatsoever yesterday. Villa created two chances in open play over 90 minutes - one offside, the other from an aimless long ball, aided by unimaginably bad defensive errors. Other than that they got a cheap free-kick (daft foul, nothing to do with tactics or set-up), and a half chance off a corner. That's it.

Far from being disjointed, our play was very cohesive, certainly for the first 60-70 minutes - far better than we saw in the majority of away games last season.
Defensively we were disjointed for all 3 goals. They picked holes between the lines which were 2 plus two wide in front of the back four leaving them exposed. As I said if you´re going to play 4-4-2 make fookin sure you defend tightly in 2 banks of four - thats it, nothing more.

Third goal had nothing to do with being disjointed. The other two came about from the only two times in the game that Villa got any space whatsoever 'between the lines'. Playing with an extra midfielder, or playing with 'two banks of four', would not stop sides getting into those positions on a couple of occasions every game - on Saturday we got undone once unluckily (bad decision), once due to a stupid foul.

For me, people are being far too quick to say that our away tactics are all wrong and need changing. Of the 6 goals conceded at Cardiff and Villa, none really came about as a result of us being too open - just an element of bad luck, and some terrible individual mistakes.

Wake up and smell the coffee fella! To concede 6 goals away from home to Cardiff & Villa is completely unacceptable.
As soon as some of the Happy Clappers on here realise it the better.

I remember one of the Villa stewards saying that and we overheard the chat amongst the other stewards.

'I've overheard some bollockings in there over the years but that has to be in the top 4 or 5, a few of the Man City players came out and looked as if they just had an accident in their pants, he was RUMBLING'.
Good

With you on this one pal.

And me!

Oh fuck no! Please tell me he's not shouting at our players? Please tell me its not true?
You know how delicate these precious little souls are - they really don't like it. It really does upset them. Its take them months and months
to get over 'the damge' this does to their ego's and self esteem.
If our new manger keeps shouting at them then he is toast! The players will all run off to the DoF and threaten to leave!
Oh fuck - better start looking for another new manager me thinks - one that doesn't shout...

I still don't think we will win anything under Pellegrini this season.

No-one can know this. It's still early days, my friend. The football is exciting and MP has a big part of his brief to move forward in the CL. He is doing his job as instructed, and very well too. Individual errors happen, especially early in the campaign.

For me, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool are in a fool's paradise. Chelsea and us will be fighting it out come the spring, in my view. As for that lot, as one of my Rag mates said on Saturday, they are worried about qualifying for the CL next season. Now that is funny. CTID

Grow up.

Its perfectly acceptable, when required, for a manager to get heavy with his staff and state a few home truths........the talent lies in how the bollockings are delivered and making sure they are constructive rather than destructive.

Its not an easy task and unfortunately some people just don't have what it takes to pull this off.

Positives:
Yaya + Nasri in best form since they have been at City

Negatives:
Should be obvious by now that Negredo + Dzeko not ideal pairing.
Substitutions not displaying any tactical insight.
Something seems wrong with overall mentality / concentration levels in defence compared to previous seasons.

I like the way Pellegrini comes across in interviews etc but I am seeing nothing of the supposed "engineer" in fine-tuning tactics that I thought we were getting.
Early days I suppose and it is probably fairer to judge him once he has a full squad to pick from (especially handling the Silva and/or Nasri issue).
What I really want to see is an acceptance that he doesn't HAVE to pick two out of Aguero / Negredo / Dzeko in any starting line up.
There may be games where Silva / Nasri / Navas + aguero or other striker is a better line up for our front 4.

Course it's unacceptable - couldn't agree more. But still seems clear to me that it's been due to individual mistakes rather than some fundamental problem with the way we're playing. Against Cardiff, for example, Yaya and Fernandinho were both in position to tackle the guy who put the cross in for the first (as was Clichy), and they didn't - wasn't as if we were suddenly exposed because we were playing gung-ho football. The other two were set-pieces, and two mistakes by Hart and Zabaleta. Against Villa, yes, they twice (in 90 minutes) got into the space in front of our back four, but we were unlucky on the first (Nastasic could have done better), and stupid on the second. No matter how you play, teams will get into those positions on occasion. Our attacking play on Saturday was, in general, very good, and I don't see anything to say that we should turn that in already to start packing the midfield.

If that makes me a happy clapper, so be it. Rather that than an unhappy flapper!

Methinks that TGR is actually quite supportive of the hairdryer treatment.

If the Daily Fail is correct and Manuel did peel the paint off the walls, then that is a judgement call by him based on what he observed in the second half. It's a side of Pellegini which should manifest itself when occasion demands.

The players need to know that the standards required are very high. After all, what is expected is 100% concentration and dedication for 90 minutes a week. Surely that's not to much to ask.

It's great to hear that the manager was equally unhappy with that performance as some of us on here. Fantastic news. Couldn't believe what I was hearing on here over the weekend, with some blues saying they were happy with the performance and enjoyed the game. Fuck that, it was 3 points pissed down the drain by a complacent bunch of prima donnas, and I'm glad the manager gave them a much deserved bollocking.
