It's perfectly understandable for us to be angry after last nights non performance, true there have been some bad games, but I think most sane and sensible blues will give Pellegrini some more time.

Last night didn't bother me that much.
Bayern are a class act, playing with tactics that suit them, with a manager who knows exactly what he is doing.
It could and should have been a lot worse.
Conceding three goals to a Villa side bereft of their best striker was utterly fucking abject.
But then I want Pellegrini sacked, so clearly I am not sensible according to your rationale.

Do you really want him sacked?

Well, we're through to the 2nd round of the Carling Cup - improvement, we've got 3 points from 2 games in the CL which is also better than same stage last year and we're not far off what we had at the same point in the league campaign so it's not like we're miles worse than under Bobby 12 months ago. I'm not saying everything is fantastically wonderful to date under MP and I have some concerns about certain aspects (this apparant religious devotion to the 4-4-2 being one) but on the other hand, some bits have been better.
Please tell me the cl point was typed in error..we played plzen mate..a pub team..come on.

You start to lose the argument when you start to undermine the team you claim to support, decrying any of our victories makes you look small time

Didn't that pub team dispense with At Madrid and Milan last season?

I know what you're saying about the Villa game, that was painful but the goals we lost were not down to tactical errors, they were more down to normally reliable players ballsing up big time.

Come on the suspense is killing me of this manager that's currently available to take us forward?

Hiddink

Sahel,
I said Hiddink also 2 pages ago but Danamy appears to ignore such answers for some unknown reason?

Maybe because Hiddink isn't anything special and his decent 6 month stint at Chelsea is his only real success (FA Cup) of note for over a decade? And did you watch his Anzhi team? I did a few times... they were slow and turgid and with a bottomless wallet finished 3rd in the Russian league and failed to qualify for the Champions League. Pellegrini has been a more impressive coach in the last 10 years. Grass is greener syndrome is in effect...

The manner of the loss had nothing at all to do with tactics

I said the same last season about our losses In Europe. It's mental and has little to do with the respective managers

I saw player's confidence ebb as they made silly errors. Just like Ajax at home last season. hart making a handling error was far more key than what formation we were set up in

I agree we need to improve our away results, but our performances have improved

I think it's wrong to dwell on a European game where we struggle, especially when it's against a team who are arguably the best ever team

We need to put a run of results together now, starting with a difficult game against Everton

I think tactics played their part last night but I agree that the mental side of it was a big factor and is a constant issue for City. I just watched the tv coverage of the game up to the first goal and we were doing OK up to that point and then conceded needlessly: Hart should have stopped that shot. I think that goal lifted Bayern and Some of the City players had that "oh here we go again in Europe" going on in their heads.

I also looked at the other goals and the second is another absolute horror, which came after we made an OK, start to the second half. Terrible defending by Clichy and Hart could have done better. Again this had nothing to do with tactics but I am damn sure it affected the players mentally.

Pellegrini got things wrong last night but I can still sympathise with him sticking to his guns on how he wants his team to play. I also sympathise with what I see as one of the problems he has to overcome with the players he inherited: their mental fragility. There is hope though on that score: if successive bayern managers can bet Robben pressing and tracking back, Pellegrini can hope to intstil more mental strength in his players. I think he is already having a positive effect on Nasri.
The only way we will get over the mental weakness in Europe is through beating teams in that competition. Chicken and the egg / vicious circle which we may get out of as we have a relatively easy group

Winning is the best cure and, as you say, it can be a bit chicken and egg. However, getting the players to believe in his system and showing more belief in themselves will help; again winning helps with that. Last night, I do think Pellegrini got things wrong and that won't help the players' belief but, and I've said this before, if Pellegrini has an approach that he believes in and has proven to work in the past, chopping and changing in response to every setback, will show a lack of faith in his own methods and is no way to get his players to believe.
