Re: Discuss Pellegrini (Pt 2)

And I the only one who watched almost the entire match thinking about how improved our defence was? Chelski weren't creating many clear cut chances at all compared to us, Gary Neville kept commenting on how well our team (as well as theirs) was working as a complete unit to shut out space.

That was until Joe Hart decided to steal the show of course.

Re: Discuss Pellegrini (Pt 2)

I'm pleased Pellegrini showed a pragmatic side. It was a good decision that should have earned us a decent result.

No complaints about the management for me.

Managers are hired, fired and judged on results regardless if the players make individual mistakes and so he must as well, especially as he was handed the best squad, best defence and goalkeeper with the golden glove again.imo it was wrong to push ahead with so many tactical changes whilst vinnie was out and we are seeing the results.still has along way to go to convince me he is the right man for this job

The thing is Karen, despite being handed the best squad, best defence and goalkeeper we still lost the league by a canter last season. In my opinion the positive signs Pellegrini has shown far outweigh the negative ones.

People were critical of Pellegrini's reluctance to change the 4-2-2-2 formation especially after the Bayern defeat but today he did and we did not deserve to lose. In fact since the United win (Bayern aside) we have not deserved to lose any of the games we have played.

Individual mistakes are costing us and that is not the managers fault. You only have to look at some of the mistakes that we have made to see how schoolboyish they truly are. No amount of coaching can excuse the way Hart messed up today or how he flapped at a corner against Cardiff or Nastasic and Kompany failing to deal with a long ball against Villa.

There are very fine lines in football and if we didn't throw the game away against Cardiff, Villa and Chelsea we would be top of the league. Combined with the football we have been playing people would be calling Pellegrini a genius.

Dont get me wrong i love our new attacking football but feel over all he is putting too much emphasis on that and not enough on keeping the solid base we have had for the last couple of years.we were terrible last year but just needed more tweaking and less major surgery.I will be delighted to have my post thrown in my face if he is a roaring sucess
This`new attacking football` is a myth, we don't attack any more than we did under Mancini, are you forgetting all the hammerings we dished out under him ? tell you what we are though..piss easy to score against now. Took us back years Pellegrini.

If only we could have bottled the way we played in 11/12

At the end of the day we are all blues and want City to be successful.

I also agree with your views about our defence. Under Mancini it was excellent and now we look like conceding every game. But again I think it's down to individual players rather than a flawed system. The majority of our team have adapted very well under Pellegrini. Aguero and Silva look reborn and even the poorer players from last year like Garcia and Kolarov look like they can be an asset. However other players look worse like Clichy, Hart and Nastasic. Personally if players like Hart, Nasty and Clichy do not improve then I fully expect Pellegrini to replace them in the summer and bring in his own personnel.

Pellegrini obviously doesn't understand the Premier League . He has never come across teams who on occasions play long balls and hoof it straight down the middle , hence we are no longer set up to combat this and it is costing us big time .
lts that simple really .

Yep. I agree it really is that simple.

I agree with the first bit, we have played some fanrastic attacking football for years now.

Second bit, probably fair at the moment. We are easier to score against, for me more personnel than management though.

Last bit bollocks.

So what do you reckon the board demands (at least) from Manuel this season?

A minimum of 2nd place a domestic cup and the last 16 of the CL.
I have a strong hunch we will only achieve the last objective stated above.
And when compared with the last 3 years that is not progress no matter how you slice it.

If true, that's harsh. Very difficult to pull off first year in charge.
I wonder if PL progress really was on the list of demands right away from the start. I mean, we did end up second last year.

I still think the plan is to stay with Manuel for around three years, and I think he will keep the job unless we in a season end up outside the top four and fail to progress from the CL group stage.

Maybe a steady top-three position and good runs in the CL isn't such a bad thing.
