The guy is too old, with no experience of this league. Everton got the best man and we gave away a gem!

His age and experience probably made him the perfect candidate to see over a transition of the club/squad/philosophy... paving the way for Pep. :D

It strange... I was thrilled to see him as our new manager, please with the way he conducts himself and how the players are adapting to a new style and philosophy.
Over all I think we play very very well, but... we now have 16 points from a possibly 27, and it seems to me a lot of those drops points are due to individual mistakes.
That's not acceptable, and could prove to be very costly in the end.

But I still feel will will make the top three, and we will progress through the group stage in the CL. If we do that, I'd still be content, but would expect far more from Manuel the next season.

So a £100m investment in the team and 3rd in the league then get dumped out of the CL as soon as we meet a half decent team is progress? I think not.
A small few on here would like you to think it is - but it isn't. Don't be fooled.

So what do you reckon the board demands (at least) from Manuel this season?

A minimum of 2nd place a domestic cup and the last 16 of the CL.
I have a strong hunch we will only achieve the last objective stated above.
And when compared with the last 3 years that is not progress no matter how you slice it.

Re: Discuss Pellegrini (Pt 2)

Thing is I think he was very very close to dropping Hart after the Bayern game but thought that backing him was the better option.

I am not sure he will do the same again now. I would be surprised to see Hart in goal next week.

Managers are hired, fired and judged on results regardless if the players make individual mistakes and so he must as well, especially as he was handed the best squad, best defence and goalkeeper with the golden glove again.imo it was wrong to push ahead with so many tactical changes whilst vinnie was out and we are seeing the results.still has along way to go to convince me he is the right man for this job

The thing is Karen, despite being handed the best squad, best defence and goalkeeper we still lost the league by a canter last season. In my opinion the positive signs Pellegrini has shown far outweigh the negative ones.

People were critical of Pellegrini's reluctance to change the 4-2-2-2 formation especially after the Bayern defeat but today he did and we did not deserve to lose. In fact since the United win (Bayern aside) we have not deserved to lose any of the games we have played.

Individual mistakes are costing us and that is not the managers fault. You only have to look at some of the mistakes that we have made to see how schoolboyish they truly are. No amount of coaching can excuse the way Hart messed up today or how he flapped at a corner against Cardiff or Nastasic and Kompany failing to deal with a long ball against Villa.

There are very fine lines in football and if we didn't throw the game away against Cardiff, Villa and Chelsea we would be top of the league. Combined with the football we have been playing people would be calling Pellegrini a genius.

But does it become the managers fault if he keeps picking the players that are letting him down?

Hart, Clichy and Nastasic have been guilty a number of times this season so what does he do?

Re: Discuss Pellegrini (Pt 2)

Pellegrini obviously doesn't understand the Premier League . He has never come across teams who on occasions play long balls and hoof it straight down the middle , hence we are no longer set up to combat this and it is costing us big time .
lts that simple really .

Without wanting to start another 'inners versus outers' discussion which I am bored shitless with we never made this number and frequency of defensive errors game after game under Mancini. We just didn't.
Back to basics and less of the gung-ho, cavalier stuff if we actually want to win the title back me thinks.

As frustrating as it is, I think I'd rather be dropping points due to stupid mistakes than due to us being outplayed: it means that what's needed isn't wholsesale change, just a matter of concentration.

As was proven with Mancini's attempts at a 3 man defence our defenders are lost when taken out of their comfort zone. Pellegrini's change to an attacking style has given our defenders something different to handle and we have not adapted. It may be a learning curve and maybe we will improve but certainly at the moment defensively we are struggling. It needs addressing now.

Dont get me wrong i love our new attacking football but feel over all he is putting too much emphasis on that and not enough on keeping the solid base we have had for the last couple of years.we were terrible last year but just needed more tweaking and less major surgery.I will be delighted to have my post thrown in my face if he is a roaring sucess

Re: Discuss Pellegrini (Pt 2)

"The way we lost the game was incredible," added the Chilean, 60. "I think Chelsea, Cardiff and Aston Villa did not have chances during the games, but we conceded stupid goals."

Pellers statement during post match interview and it is bang on. We are just conceding stupid goals at the minute and it is not down to the manager, the defence needs to pull its finger out and get back to being what it once was - the best in the league
