11 points dropped and 7th in the league is a sorry state of affairs when you consider what we have spent and the players at our disposal. I would just like you to acknowledge That if this was mancinis start to a campaign there would be very very few positives from you Dave. I supposed you have to ride that horse to the finish line now though.

Just seen this beaut.

If you want to live in a Janet and John X factor world where not rating one manager automatically means you do rate the next one, then you do that. But don't drag me into it please.

Roberto Mancini is as relevant to this conversation as Kevin keegan.

Yes but you aren't being true to yourself are you ? I think pride is holding you back from the proper rant you want to have about our season so far. Are you not frustrated at all Dave ?

I hope you're charging by the hour for your counselling bobmcfc?

It may be a mid-life crisis but let him be, it makes the mod job easier ;-)

At this rate Pelle needs atleast two season to make any impact .
Then his contract is nearly up and we're looking to bring the next man in.
I've liked a lot of what I've seen as an attacking unit, defensively not so much. He has to make an impact this season or we will be going backwards. Since it's been nearly 5 years since the takeover there's no way in the world we should be hiring managers on a 3 year contract who need 2 to make headway.

I feel MP is doing well so far. Reasons being

1. We've played some very very high quality stuff going forward.

2. Top scorers in the division

3. Al but qualified from the CL group

4. He seems to have turned Garcia, nasri and kolarov into better players.

5. He is excellent at the media side of it. Doesn't get sucked in like RM always did. Doesn't 'blame' or scapegoat players in public. Doesn't given the sharks any sniff of blood.

Yes we've dropped 7 really silly points but none of those could be directly attributed to MP. They were all either individual and/or team mistakes.

I think it's clear he believes in scoring being more important than clean sheets. I agree with his philosophy as 38 clean sheets would get us fuck all if they were all 0-0 draws. Goals win prizes not clean sheets.

As we've had the best defensive record for 3 years now this re-prioritisation is something we as fans will simply have to adjust to.

When utd lost out to us on GD did they go mental and buy better defenders? Did they fuck they went out and bought more goals. It worked .

Goals win prizes and our bizarre individual mistakes won't continue forever.

To be fair, they should have bought defenders. I'm glad they didn't. They delayed the inevitable by a season and now they're in a pickle.

Its the result that counts .
If scoring more goals wins game then why the hell we didn't score 3 goals yesterday?
We need balance and better tactics to win games.

They're in the shit due to a huge change and a new manager. It's only 5 months since they ran away with the league with the same squad they have now.

Anyway I'm sure you understood the point I was originally making.

-- Mon Oct 28, 2013 4:11 pm --

[*]

I'm sorry but the losses to Chelsea villa and Cardiff had nothing to do with balance or tactics. They were all down to schoolboy errors and huge lapses of concentration.

Let me ask you all - had we not made those mistakes in those 3 games and won them all and were sitting top on 23 points would this debate even exist?

The mistakes are not the managers fault or the fault if his tactics or anything else.

Errors by players and nothing more.

I don't think Pellegrini places as little emphasis on defence as people seem to think. He believes in defending from the front, high pressing etc. This is what Barca did when they were the worlds best and it is what Bayern do. To counter teams that do high press you require composure on the ball and high technical ability. It is what Barca had, it is what all the top teams have. When you see the way Bayern play their way out of trouble and all the great teams have it is the perfect way to play. The only way it is undone is a long hopeful ball over the top that the opposition gets lucky with. It is the perfect way to dominate and force the opposition.

This is what Pellegrini will do with City, he preferred Garcia at CB to Lescott etc - why? Because he is composed on the ball. Demichelis is also a composed defender. Kompany and Nastasic are as well. He wants possession football with high pressing. The team are making individual errors but they are still learning as a unit. It is a complete contrast to how they were playing. When they learn to move as a unit and press and each player understands their role then we will be even better. Our attacking play is miles ahead of what it was. We pass and move and have lots of different options. We use the ball quickly which is where we struggled.

It is early days and we have suffered from individual errors and injury problems. Comparatively we are on the same trajectory as last season in terms of who we have played and our results. But from our performances we deserve better. That is positive. Should we have deserved to lose or had we been playing badly I would be concerned. The improvements will come and the luck too. This latest error will give the players that final kick up the arse. Hart may be dropped, I would actually play him in the league cup this week and see how he responds. But I think he needs to be punished with a spell on the bench just to know that he needs to improve. Everything else has failed. Kompany hopefully is near a return and I really think we will start to kick on considerably.
