Brought NOTHING new to the team.

We have same exact issues we had under Mancini. Plus has almost zero passion on the sidelines.

Sorry, but his signing will turn out a failure.

That's just not true Eagles.
He has brought us back the keystone cops defending of the Mark Hughes era.
At least give him some credit for that.

And Pearce had all the passion you could wish for......

FFS this thread and it's topic wouldn't be mentioned if it wasn't for the bollock dropped between Hart and Nasty yesterday, we'd all be lauding him for a superb performance and how unlucky we were not to have got the 3 points.

Bluemoon the home of the knee jerk..........................

Sorry. Chelsea had far more clear cut chances despite us being the better passing side. So a win would have been undeserved. You don´t get points for artistic merit in football. And the sooner Manuel works that out the better.

Not convinced by him, to be honest, He doesn't seem to be a particularly inspiring individual and, if you believe that the manager is ultimately responsible for performances on the pitch (on the basis that he has picked the team), then he has questions to answer. For instance, his continuing selection of Garcia and his non selections of Lescott and Milner in JG's place. Having said that, we have to give him the season and see how he does even if it may, repeat; MAY mean writing the season off. To get rid of him in mid-season would be madness.

Apart from a 20 minute spell in the 1st half, sounds like you must have been watching a different game. I don't recall Hart having a save to make outside of that period. A draw was the least we deserved

The stats for yesterday are as follows
Chelsea / City
Shots 12 / 15
On Target 4 / 6
Possession 45% / 55%
Corners 3 / 6
Total Passes 396 / 480
Saves 5 / 2
Errors leading to a goal 0 / 1

Rather than the tactics, think the reason for us losing is pretty clear. The only thing they beat us on in the stats was offsides! MP couldn't of done anything yesterday that could of changed that result.

Chelsea should of been out of sight by half time with the game over
We did battle back brilliantly and in the end were unlucky not to grab a point.

Amazing we're not bashing the manager for not playing Micah at centre half when the previous three managers have all also avoided playing him at centre half like the plague!

I think you'll find that Micah actually played at CB in the home game against Chelsea in the title winning season and against Soke City 3 days later, because Vinnie and Lescott were injured. What people are complaining about is, I think, that Pellegrini has decided to play Javi Garcia at CB in preference to Micah, NOT that he's played Vinnie in preference to Micah. Micah was injured for most of last season, but was picked at full back to rest Zaba, when Micah was fit again.

So you mean Micah played at centre half when we had literally no other options? Kind of makes my point.

No, it doesn't. It shows that we had two first choice centre backs and if they weren't available Mancini played Micah at CB. It soes not prove that "the previous three managers have all also avoided playing him at centre half like the plague!" Micah's best position is not CB, but he seems rather better there than Javi Garcia. "Kind of makes my point."

Was Javi Garcia a member of our squad when Micah played at CB?

Also did Mancini ever play Garcia at CB?

Nope... you're still just making my point over and over again.

Que?

Granted they had a couple of decent chances, Torres shinning it over and the one that hit the bar, but I would say that it's a tad harsh to make the assumption that every half decent chance a team has should go in. If you use that logic you could say we should have had 4 or 5 in the second half.

I don't think Pellegrini places as little emphasis on defence as people seem to think. He believes in defending from the front, high pressing etc. This is what Barca did when they were the worlds best and it is what Bayern do. To counter teams that do high press you require composure on the ball and high technical ability. It is what Barca had, it is what all the top teams have. When you see the way Bayern play their way out of trouble and all the great teams have it is the perfect way to play. The only way it is undone is a long hopeful ball over the top that the opposition gets lucky with. It is the perfect way to dominate and force the opposition.

This is what Pellegrini will do with City, he preferred Garcia at CB to Lescott etc - why? Because he is composed on the ball. Demichelis is also a composed defender. Kompany and Nastasic are as well. He wants possession football with high pressing. The team are making individual errors but they are still learning as a unit. It is a complete contrast to how they were playing. When they learn to move as a unit and press and each player understands their role then we will be even better. Our attacking play is miles ahead of what it was. We pass and move and have lots of different options. We use the ball quickly which is where we struggled.

It is early days and we have suffered from individual errors and injury problems. Comparatively we are on the same trajectory as last season in terms of who we have played and our results. But from our performances we deserve better. That is positive. Should we have deserved to lose or had we been playing badly I would be concerned. The improvements will come and the luck too. This latest error will give the players that final kick up the arse. Hart may be dropped, I would actually play him in the league cup this week and see how he responds. But I think he needs to be punished with a spell on the bench just to know that he needs to improve. Everything else has failed. Kompany hopefully is near a return and I really think we will start to kick on considerably.

Brilliant post. Exactly what I was trying too say a page or two back about the inclusion of Garcia. He's instilling a possession-based game where we dominate games by playing around their box. And when you have players like silva and Sergio that will be devastating. I see it coming together week by week- the attackers have gelled into it wonderfully and there are a bagful of goals coming. Vinny will calm that back four down, and I suspect so will the inclusion of pantimillion who will dominate his area better and hopefully release the ball quicker.

I'm totally convinced that this team is coming together into something wonderful.

My only point of disagreement, and it may be just semantics - is benching Hart to punish him. Hart does not need to be punished: he's not a naughty schoolkid. He needs to be taken out of the firing line and given time away from the pressures he faces and reflect on the fact that he is not untouchable.
