Discuss Pellegrini (Pt 4)

Pellegrini's top priority isn't England winning the World Cup, he's no sentiment there, and he's stuck his flag in the ground that he's not bothered too much.

Richards should just move on for his own benefit. Hodgson isn't bothered for him, so why not go and play in Italy. He'd go with everyones blessing. That's the point though, how is Javi Garcia seeing more game time than any off the English lads?

And as a coach, Pellegrini needs to work with what he has to a degree, e.g. Rodwell. This isn't a Sinclair situation is it? He's evidently a better player.

People likely aren't going to appreciate what someone like Demichelis brings to the team until we're playing how Pellegrini wants us too. Praying for Vinny in the back line upon which we'll be fine is missing the point a bit. We defend better with Vinny yes, but we'll defend even better when the whole team starts doing what it's told, Vinny or not.

When we're suddenly pressing up with conviction, and our centre halves are pinging the ball about like Yaya and Fernandinho, it will all make a lot more sense. It will also become a lot more obvious which of our defenders are incapable of doing this.

interesting he had Demichelis playing a lot of yesterday on the left and Jolo on the right. Preparation for the return of Mr K I suspect, partnering Demichelis.

I agree. That I imagine is the plan, for this season at least. He wanted Pepe to partner Kompany (Doubt he was buying him as back up), and when that fell through he still went for Martin. How the back line presses up and how comfortable they are with the ball is so important to how he wants us to play, and he clearly didn't feel he had enough quality at his disposal in that position. Despite this we have still suffered multiple hits at centre half, so it will be good to see this take shape when everyone is fit. Has Pellegrini even had a single chance to play Demichelis and Kompany together yet?

That space is the biggest concern i have. Shelvey kept finding himself in acres of space between our defence and midfield. Shelvey is shit so we got away with it. But when we're playing teams like bayern etc if you give that kind of space away they will kill you.

At the moment i'm not too sure what the answer is because to solve it means either dropping yaya or changing formation and neither of those things will happen.

Kompany being back will help matters because he has the pace to step out of the line and still get back. It will be pellegrini's defining move for me though. If he gets it right then we will beat anyone who comes in our path. And i mean anyone.

I totally agree with the point you made about Shelvey, Laudrup certainly done his homework in regards playing between the lines and utilising the space.

A better team would've punished us with them tactics and everytime Demichelis stepped out of defence to close down the space my heart was in my mouth, like you say Kompany can recover but Demichelis got done a couple of times committing himself too early.

I would like to think he'd drop Dinho in front of the back four against the better sides to counter this like he did against Chelsea, playing the De Jong role so to speak?

Even though Fernandinho played deeper, surely it was Garcia who played the De Jong role against Chelsea

My apologies you're correct

I knew he played someone in front of the back four for that game, I was at the game but didn't think i was that pissed, it was indeed Garcia not Dinho.

There is another way, but it requires total concentration and everyone to play their part.

Mancini didn't have the right personnel, but with Fernandino screening, we could catch a few teams off guard with a three at the back?

Hear me out... It fundamentally requires Zab and Kompany to make up two of the spots and if Demichelis had another yard, his reading of the game and distribution would have been ideal.

With a three we could also afford to drop in one of Milner or Rodwell in alongside Fernandinho, play Yaya advanced and still retain Sergio and the Beast?

Something like so....

Zabba.....Komps.......Demi/Nasty
...................Dinho.................
...............Milner.......Yaya......
.................Silva.....Nasri.........
..............Sergio........Beast.......

We are wide open anyhow on the counter but opponents would have to compensate for what is coming at them.

Very brave Tolmie i'll give you that but i personally don't like it, we'll be too exposed and lack width with that set up, in my humble opinion

forgive me while I go and shit myself.

The current formation is bad enough at leaving us wide open, 3 at the back halfway through the season just brings back nightmares of last year.

Nay, nay and thrice nay.

Not a fan of three at the back. However, I do like the Pep approach, where you have very attacking full backs and one DM who becomes virtually a third centre back. Whether Dinho or Yaya really want to do that role is questionable. It's a role that Rodwell might eventually flourish in. Would require two new full backs.

Pellegrini has realised that the high line was killing us with the defenders we have , he`s moved us back which has shut the space in behind us . we are now allowing the opposition more of the ball ala Spurs & Swansea which brings the other team onto us , as a result we are killing teams on the break. In theory this should be even easier to do away from home. Hats off to the manager.
