I will be dismayed if he stays, and not having the ideal players for his preferred system is a poor excuse. There's a simple answer; adapt. And if it's energy we lack then don't pick Ya Ya, Lampard and Fernando, whilst Fernandinho and Milner warm the bench. I honestly can't believe some of the stuff I've seen since Christmas. There seems to be no discernible game plan either offensively or defensively. If the plan is to keep the faith for another year, whilst waiting on a 'maybe' from Guardiola, then heaven fucking help us

This is pretty much where I am also, yesterdays lethargic shite just proving that unless faced with a team that is utter shite or makes it easy for us to break them down, this group of players pretty much no longer responds to him or anything he tries to implement for more than about 15 mins.

Although I will always be grateful for the memories of last season, seeing how the product on the pitch has deteriorated, I cant fathom having Pellegrini in charge next season, and fucking hate the idea of 'waiting for Pep' who when the times comes will probably just blow us out anyway - lets be honest, someones word means fuck all in the world of football these days.

For our next appointment, we need a top notch manager to take this project to the level the owners want it to be. Looks like we are going to be able to spend a decent amount for the first time in a few years and (for me) the faith in Txiki and Manuels ability to spend it in the right places has to be questioned. Heres hoping the feelers are out in the right places.

Italian media claim ex-Inter and Napoli Coach Walter Mazzarri is in line to take over at Manchester City.

The tactician was spotted in the stands of the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to watch City beat Aston Villa 3-2.

This prompted Calciomercato.com to suggest he was there scouting his potential next club.

Getting tiresome now, rantings of a man who knows his fate. Fuck him off and let Kidd take the last 4 games.

“I think in a season when you don’t win everything it is not a good season but I think it is not easy in this league to be in the second place,” he said. “In this league you have five or six strong teams, the same strength as our team and in a bad season I don’t think it is bad to finish second.

“I understand that for the media the only thing this team must do is to win everything, every championship, every game because the other teams are very weak, they don’t have good players, they don’t have money but I understand that it is not a good season. I think the players are trying to win the next game, trying to finish as near the top of the table as we can.

“We are trying also to be next year in the Champions League. I repeat once again, I appreciate that you think the only team that must win the title is City. We cannot win trophies every year. it is impossible especially in this year. This year Arsenal spend more money, Chelsea spend more money, United spend more money, Liverpool more money and have very strong squads – same as our squad.

“So if you think for this squad it is a bad position or shame to be in second place, I don’t think so.”

I think tactically Manuel had got it badly wrong at times this season, but I do feel a certain level of sympathy towards him.

Watching his teams in Spain I don't think we have the correct personnel to play the way Manuel wants us to play, for a start we don't have much energy in the team to play a high intense press and we don't have that really top notch player other than Sergio who is great in 1 v 1 situations.

Two reasons why I think he will stay are firstly the recruitment, we will bring in players to play the way Manuel really wants us to play, and secondly because of the Pep dream.

I just think from Txiki's point of view as well that maybe a big overhaul of players along with a new manager and coaching team may just be too much change at one time.

I will be dismayed if he stays, and not having the ideal players for his preferred system is a poor excuse. There's a simple answer; adapt. I agree Exeter. I believe that all fans have been prepared to cut him a lot of slack after the triumph of last season. However when we have been witnessing on a weekly basis a failure to adapt, then that leeway diminishes very quickly.

There are so many reasons why Pellers has to go.

If you don't have the players to play your preferred system, then change it. If Yaya is not producing the goods then don't make him captain! If other teams have worked us out then figure out a way to counter them and thereby surprise them. Don't go down a path with blind faith in a formation that is outdated.

If our defence is shaky then study the tapes and work out why it's happening! If we aren't scoring from set pieces, or even looked vaguely threatening, then work on the training pitch and display the variations in a game. None of this seems to be happening.

Rather than reward indifferent performances with constant rotation, reward players that are putting in the effort. In other words don't drop Fernandinho when he is one of our few players that has been giving 100%!

Also show the fans that you support an holistic approach by having young players on the bench. Give them some hope that they can make it. Even if it's when we are 3-0 up with 20 minutes to go, put on a young player to give them experience.

As I said I am sure all of us wanted MP to succeed and see out his contract. In fact I have no doubt that our leadership were not expecting to have to deal with any of this. Nevertheless this is a business, and a business decision must be made in the best long term interests of the club.

I can't see any another viable decision than organising a dignified exit for MP.

Great post. Agree with the reasoning 100%.

That is a very disingenuous way to evaluate the season

“We cannot win trophies every year,” he said. “It is impossible - especially in this year. This year Arsenal spend more money, Chelsea spend more money, United spend more money, Liverpool more money and have very strong squads.

“If in this season we finish in seventh place without Europe I understand. But when we are the whole season, 34 games, and always second I don’t think that is the same criticism as when you are in sixth and seventh place.

“It is impossible for any club to progress always - it’s impossible.”

The money comment remind me of Mancini. Money is very important but it's not everything. Tactics can get you very far even if you have financial limits and better tactics would have earned us better results this season on quite a few occasions.
