“We cannot win trophies every year,” he said. “It is impossible - especially in this year. This year Arsenal spend more money, Chelsea spend more money, United spend more money, Liverpool more money and have very strong squads.

“If in this season we finish in seventh place without Europe I understand. But when we are the whole season, 34 games, and always second I don’t think that is the same criticism as when you are in sixth and seventh place.

“It is impossible for any club to progress always - it’s impossible.”

No realistic City fan expects a trophy every season but it would be nice to be in contention for one or two. The early exits from the domestic Cups were a major disappointment and with the almost expected CL exit at the first KO stage there was nothing to distract from the poor league form in the first few months of 2015.

As for other clubs spending money well IMO the quality of the PL is at its worst for 5 years or so. Chelsea don't look that much better right now than they did last season. Liverpool have declined significantly despite their spending and the rags and Arsenal are only showing slight improvements so trying to blame the FFP restrictions for our problems as he seems to imply is poor from Pellegrini.

I like him and I like his brand of football he tries to play but the bottom line is he has failed to get his ideas to work on a consistent basis with the current players (even if some are reaching the end of their time at the club) and if he did survive he would be under more pressure to reach the targets that had been set.

The money comment remind me of Mancini. Money is very important but it's not everything. Tactics can get you very far even if you have financial limits and better tactics would have earned us better results this season on quite a few occasions.

True. We have been outplayed several times this season (maybe not in terms of possession of the ball, but certainly in terms of desire and tactics) by teams with far less resources than ourselves who have spent tiny fractions of what we have spent in wages and transfers.

Even having spent 'what little' we have of late, we have a squad that is up there if not better than every team he mentioned. The desire has gone from the players, the ability to motivate them gone from the manager. Money as an excuse doesnt wash.

I want him gone, however I think I'll have to wait until the summer of 2016 to get my wish.

In my opinion he'll stay Paul, its the players who will be off, shame it didnt happen to those players who decided not to play against Wigan in the Cup Final

I do get the feeling Txiki and Ferran will have looked at how some of our players have performed this season and how they performed under the latter days of Mancini and possibly realised that far too many of them hold too much power in the dressing room and have got too comfortable with life at City.

Pellegrini has got it tactically very wrong at times this season but some of our players have been an absolute disgrace showing absolutely no fight or urgency at all, dare I say some of them have looked like mercenaries.

I think Manuel will stay, mainly because of our supposed dream for Pep, but also because it is time for a fresh start with a new team and maybe changing 7 or 8 players as well as a new manager and coaching staff it might just be a little too much change to happen in one summer.

If something isn't working in any business you change it and football is no different. It has been obvious for some time now that whatever system we are playing has been sussed out and isn't working yet the manager persists with it,even defends it.Every single team we play no longer fears us and they all look like they will score from every attack and set piece against us. We are wide open all over the pitch,no player seems to know what they are doing, tactically we are shot and it is only the quality we have in our ranks, from the few who can be bothered that is saving us on occasion.

The players look shot and jaded and devoid of confidence. We need at least two stellar signings, top notch world class players the opposition are going to look at and think ''Shit!! Look who they have signed!!!'' This would give the whole place a lift and hopefully motivate the ones left.It will prove an interesting summer.

playing a midfield of milner and fernando against Barcelona was the point I lost all faith in him.

Cart has to go before the horse. Transfers aren't formally completed until the window opens but deals are discussed now. It wont be easy for City to close our ideal targets with the managerial uncertainty and we're led to believe that that wont be clarified until June.

Lets see how sanguine blues are by then.
