That's got nothing to do with our own poor performances so no, I don't think it suggests anything. I accept that most teams have improved over the last couple of years but a lot of the games we've dropped points was down to ourselves rather than coming up,against a quality side.
It's certainly got something to do with comparing points totals with previous years and coming to the conclusion it's solely down to us performing badly and nothing to do with others improving.

Yeah but my problem with the season is the performances and general apathy that seems to surround the team most weeks. I'm not really bothered that much about comparisons to past years just this one.

But our form in the here and now is what's worrying. That's why some of us are disappointed. Of course it's possible to go on a run and win the league and of course all the poor games will be forgotten about, but, we are not playing anywhere near our full potential at the moment and in a season where nobody's really taken control, it seems like an opportunity missed at the moment.

We're in a very similar position in terms of our form and proximity to the league leader as where we were at this stage in 2015 and 2013. That's why people are nervous.

Doesn't the fact nobody has taken control suggest it may no be justus and the standard throughout the league has narrowed, with team like Leicester, West Ham Stoke and Palace having some very good players. I go back to Mourinho seeing it and predicting at the start of the season that the top teams would drop more points this year and the title winners would have a lower points total than previous years. Even the teams at the bottom like Bournemouth and Newcastle are capable of a good result against anybody.

I think there's something in that (although I also think that underperformance by City and other "big" teams is a factor). But if it were all down to improvement by teams at the bottom or in mid table shouldn't we be trying to adapt to that? We're continuing to play as if we're in a two team league. We do our own thing, play our own way almost regardless of the opposition. If we accept that the league has become stronger, that's it going to be a long hard slog with no easy games, shouldn't we be doing things like working more on defending, showing more respect for the opposition in terms of the formations we put out, trying to tactically out think the opposition ?

I could handle us playing badly but grinding out wins each week and I'd currently be more sympathetic to the manager if we were playing well but not quite getting the rub of the green. But the reality is that at the moment we are just playing fairly badly and getting fairly poor results. This "run" we are going to go on could happen and it may be enough to get us over the line but I don't see much evidence to suggest it's going to happen. At least if the performances were decent but just not getting results then there would be something to hang on to and believe that this "run" is around the corner. Who knows though, maybe we will turn a corner tomorrow.

Yes. and I think that will happen with Guardiola, he'll adjust tactics depending on opposition, still think we'll lose to teams like Everton, Southampton occasionally though. However Pep is one of very few coaches that can vary tactics on a game by game basis, I don't think Pellegrini can but it doesn't suddenly make him a bad manager as even Wenger, Mourinho and the turtle have struggled to adjust as well.

How many have we let in? how many pastings?

21 in the league, a goal a game.

4th best defensive record so far and the same as Arsenal who are top and better than Leicester who are just above us.

Karen nobody is pretending that the current form is great because it isnt but too many of you are just coming out with blanket statements that are patently not true.
