Does he come up with the goods, though, really?

It's been a while IMO.

And surely if we are worried about how he would react to be a regular on the bench, then we don't need players here anymore who feel like they are doing us a favour.

He contributed to both goals against Sevilla plus he does a lot of good work on the ball that gets missed, he should play less I think most agree with this but his reaction going of the past will not be good

Without Agurero, KDB and Yaya provide our main goal threat. Yaya came closest to scoring for us with his header and the miss hit shot. I accept Yaya is getting less mobile but his passing is world class. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

recall bacon face coming to etihad and trying for a nil-nil that would have given the rags the title ? Vinny popped up and fucked that idea up and bacons tactics where heavily criticised..

Not exactly different today in the way pellers knew nil nil would be a fair result, big difference is pellers git it right...

Only time he must have thought oh fuck was everytime bony got the ball..
Was it just me who saw Bony hold the ball up and find a blue shirt really well under pressure quite a few times in the first half? He was certainly much better in possession than De Bruyne in my opinion. I can't help but feel that it has got to the stage that unless he performs like Sergio then people are just going to not recognise anything Bony brings to the game. He got zero service yesterday and the fact is that he isn't Aguero and he isn't going to make chances for himself out of nothing.

Many people will laugh but away from home and in Europe...all day - so much energy and much underrated forward passing and box-to-box from Fernandinho and Delph. We have to forget about price tags, reps etc. As Pellegrini initially stated, we need the right instruments in the orchestra.

..............Delph.......Fernado.............
...................Fernandinho.............

We've gotta see if Delph can do it at our level first. I'm sure he can, but fingers crossed!

Great pragmatism shown by Pellegrini yesterday. He's seemed to have learned that for the bigger games you can't play Yaya in a midfield 2 so fair do's to him for that. Also responded very well to TT bringing on Fellaini by bringing on Demi (I personally would've brought on Mangala but he could've been worried about his lapses of concentration.)

Twice now away to strong opposition he's played Fernandonho (no that's not a typo) in front of the defence and pushed Yaya up to no.10 so that we have better protection from the midfield, but it'll be interesting to see what he does when everyone's fit, whether he goes back to his "old" ways and puts Yaya and Fernandinho together or he decides to be more pragmatic. Personally I would have Fernandonho in front of the back 4 and then play Silva, Kdb and Sterling ahead of them. This would give us defensive solidarity and a big potential to counter attack. Yaya is terrible in a 2 in the big games but is also not as good as a no.10.

In recent times we've needed Yaya as an attacking force so much that we had to put up with his defensive issues, as we "only" had Silva, Aguero and him as real threats. But now with Sterling and Kdb especially we don't need him as much, and can sacrifice him for a lot more protection in front of the back 4.

I think you are spot on there with the 'types' of players & the basic idea (it could also work with Fernando sitting behind Delph & Fernandinho, which I would prefer, but then it would imo work with Yaya & Fern1) We don't know yet, if Fernando & Delph are quite good enough.

Take that a step further & swap Delph & Fernando for two world class players in the mould of Keane & Bell & we win the Champions Lg imo. That's the next stage of our evolution I recon.

What we are doing now is effectively treading water until players of that calibre can be found for that position.

Fitting Yaya in that team without providing the opposition with a free pass at our backline is really problematic at the moment.
When everyone is fit, I just don't see how Yaya gets in the starting 11 on merit. It's going to be a big problem for Pellegrini because I suspect we will be a much better, much more functional team without Yaya but I also sense that Yaya, for all manner of reasons, could be a very difficult player to drop. We could do with getting Yaya to New York in January in many respects to avoid the fall out but I can't see that happening.
