He doesn't fit in our best 11.

Aguero
Silva
Sterling
De Bruyne
Fernando
Fernandinho

That is a perfect balance. Fernando has been much better this year.

If Yayas biggest asset is what he brings going forward then he doesn't make the starting 11 for me, we have more than enough attacking options within the midfield/top of the pitch above.

It'll take one tight away match he doesn't start for you all to start begging for him back in the starting XI.

We lack penetration without him in the side. It's really as simple as that.

It's amazing how this forum knee jerks after every match.

Why do people operate in such extremes? Toure isn't finished at City there's just a tiny handful of games a season where he maybe can't be accommodated. NYC in Jan ? That's mad. He's still a TOP player as he proved against Sevilla laying on both our goals.

Therein lies the problem.

How does Pellegrini keep Yaya happy and drop him in the big games? All players want to play in the big matches and over the past 5 seasons, no one has contributed more in the big games than Yaya.

Somehow I don't think he will be happy with a start against Norwich but being benched in a crucial Champions League game.

Totally agree Billy......only a couple of months ago,99% of posters on here would have picked Stephen Hawkings in front of Fernando.

I agree with BillyShears. The problem is that when we have the ball Yaya is the focal point for the majority of our more effective attacking play. His range of passing and pass selection are far superior to anone else we have at the club. Unfortunately when we dont have the ball Yaya is a complete liability.

We now have a choice. A midfield two or three without Yaya is much more solid defensively but far less effective from an attacking standpoint. A midfield with Yaya is far less defensively sound but far more dangerous from an attacking sense. We choose the side depending on the opponent and the required outcome. The challenge will be getting Yaya's ego to appreciate this.

For those reasons I think we need to persevere and accomodate Yaya. As uncomfortable as it may be, Yaya is still an vital component of the squad.

Yaya was fine attacking and defensively in the 4231 when Silva was playing in front of him and Sterling & Navas or De Bruyne were providing adequate support for the full backs. We were compact and the amount of space that he had to cover was minimised. Its when the team are stretched that his physical limitations are exposed.

Not knee jerk from me boss.

I've felt this way for a while ;-)

All opinions and at the end of the day, Yaya will be playing the majority of games this season so I'll never get to see it without him, in the flesh.

I completely agree with both sides of the arguement on yaya...defensive liability but he adds so much control to the midfield when in posession.

There is an answer but it lies with the other players and the manager.

Mp has to instill some real discipline into ferna......this btw is not an attack on him as a player or what he does i think he is a fantastic player....but hhe problem comes when both yaya and ferna are caught forward and with space behind them.....ferna can recover but yaya cant...gherefore the answer is to make sure that evertime yaya steps forward that ferna isnt doing the same...essentially he needs to dove tail with yaya and play deeper when the ball is in the last third. The other way is to get the centre halves to step up really high but that brings in its own dangers. ......none of this is ideal but if we are to play yaya then it could be done.

The other way is to drop the wide players and play a 433 with yaya, ferna and one of either delph or fernando in the midfield and then a forward 3 of kun silva and one other most likely kdb

Does he come up with the goods, though, really?

It's been a while IMO.

And surely if we are worried about how he would react to be a regular on the bench, then we don't need players here anymore who feel like they are doing us a favour.
He literally just won us that game vs Sevilla..

There is no Yaya conundrum, for now he can't be dropped. No other CM in the squad has the same passing ability he has. Was evident against United that Fernando and Dinho can't build up attacks well. Solution is we wait until Jan to bring someone in or stick with it for the rest of the season.
