I get that, and you are right it does seem to be the way things have been for some time. I would just like to see a manager at our club for an extended period time, and I think (health permitting) it could be MP that's assume he does the required and progresses us year on year. Obviously progressing year on year is only sustainable for so long, but still would be nice.

I think Khaldoon even said it in an interview that management moves in cycles so the club doesnt stall or something to that effect.

ahhh ok I must have missed that. unlike the guy in the Luke Bratton thread I am willing to let the club do what they thinks write. :D

Was very pleased with the tactics in the derby. It's exactly what we needed to do after last season there and with no Silva and Kun. We made it a cagey game, made the pitch small by playing a high line with the ball and not pressing high (not pressing works better when we have a two of the two Fens). The space we occupied made the pitch smaller and us more difficult to play through. How many times (as opposed to Sevilla and even the likes of Bournemouth and West Ham and Spurs games) did United really run at us and create havoc? Very few over the full 90minutes.

They did suss out - especially Martial - that pulling out side and playing up the touch lines would entice our full backs and centre halves out from the narrow space we tried to make ourselves occupy, and they drew a few fouls and bookings from that. Otemendi was fucking class at doing the right thing when that happened though (he looked very very good on Sunday, can see why he is in the list for Ballon d'Or).

But we were tighter and narrower in midfield with an extra man in there too. I thought we defended very well against Chelsea at home but Sunday we were just as good and we were away from home. I'd love to see us set up like that at Sevilla. If Silva's back maybe straight swap him for Yaya and keep the two Ferns together.

I find it laughable that some people think he's 'learned' to play like that just this week. You do not coach in Spain (and at Madrid) if you can only play one way. The simple fact is, he hates playing that way. He'd rather attack and concede than do what happened on Sunday. More power to his elbow I say. I'd rather watch us going into any game all guns blazing and get turned over than have some sterile tactical masterclass every week. I accept its practical once in a while, but I'd hate to see it becoming the norm in away games.
I also think that Silva and Aguero in there, instead of YaYa and Bony, gives a very different game.

just watched the press conference from yesterday, must admit i smiled all the way through it, straight batted every question without exception, he must be a nightmare to interview.
he obviously doesn't suffer fools gladly

Good to see Pellegrini wasn't happy with the way his team played last Sunday and that he hates it when his team looks like it's defending for a draw. I support his outscoring the opponent mentality and he should stick to that. Only to be unhappy once in a while when things simply don't go as he wishes and takes action to simply hold out for the maximum result on the day, and move on.

The more I see of Pellegrini, the more I feel we should keep him as long as he wants to do the job. You cant put a price on being a good man and having the team wanting to play for you. Added to which, he has done a good job as coach over the 2+ years. No point changing coach unnecessarily.

Unless you want to progress in Europe......
