The left back position apart, which has always been weak, what has happened to the defence??? Kompany who was being talked about as one of the world's best centre half's has been all over the shop for two seasons and Zabba, considered one of the best right backs looks knackered and lost. The other position we are trying to bed someone into.Now....have they suddenly become shit players almost overnight or are we continuing to play a system that we can't cope with and leaves us wide open at the back? I know what i think and if a man paid a pretty good wage to sort this can't see it then the people above him need to have a serious word!

Well that is the question. He can only choose from what he's got. From what i've seen of Sagna, we're going to struggle at RB
if Zabs having problems. Denayer has looked OK pre season, but is he good enough to fit straight into first team squad.
I'd say try him, but we know how the tide would change if he dared have an off game.

Well whichever system you use some 'expert' on Sky moans about it, so I've no idea!

But the way Pellegrini wants us to defend, & the way he likes to swap players, is about as hard as it gets for defenders imo, & we look completely undertrained, whoever plays. If he drills it all week I'm sure it will be much better, but it just looks like a fucking mess to me at the moment & I hope he accepts that & puts tye work in. Even if it needs double sessions.
You'd hope we would have mastered it by now,Mangala worries me, he's already talking about a settling in season, the spotlights on him and Vinny this season for sure,I agree about it being hard for defenders to his style but that runs through the whole team, the magic rectangle article of his days at Villareal is a good read.

I think it's more of a training issue than personnel, it's essentially the same squad that won us the title, it always takes a few games to get 'match fit' and the discipline to reappear. Left back is definately an issue, as for CB I'll leave judgment on that for a while. Mangala will hopefully come good and I hope Vinny gets back to the level he's capable of.

Time will tell.

Never read it. Sounds intrresting. I think he's really clever but Don Howe, Mancini etc etc drill these fuckers to get tight defending. If you let it slip, you get Arsenal now, compared to Arsebal when Wenger took over.

Now i see that point. We definately need to improve. I'm just hoping we have things ironed out for the start of the season.

Me too. I do think the 4-2-3-1 will help rather than have two strikers doing very little up top. This preseason has been a fiasco though and I wonder, with the exception of integrating Sterling, what benefits we have achieved from it. But that cannot all be blamed on Pellers.

It's a fucking friendly. It means the square root of fuck all.

The results don't mean anything but the fact our defensive line is neither playing offside nor covering does. It looks like Sven's back 4 at the monent. Or Macdonald's Huddersfield during the 1-10, with some playing offside, & some running back.
