Discussion: Manuel Pellegrini 2015/16

What puzzles me is that Pellegrini had seemingly accepted that Toure had limitations defensively and had despite comments above changed his tactics for the more demanding fixtures away from home eg Utd.

But why revert to type? At least he changed it at half time even if it was too late. The game was gone then, but at least we know he knows

There must be no repeat!!

I can see him playing again, but when he does it must be with a team altered accordingly.

Prob le arse. But I'm not saying there are better squads in the PL, I'm saying ours is not as good as maybe you think it is. If you want to challenge that then fine. A simple look at our best perceived starting 11 and who is 2nd in that position will confirm that. Again, IMO of course

Arsenal have a better squad than us. OK mate.

I have a feeling that the persistence with Yaya may be drawing to an end but it is still a big call to leave him out. The reason he persists with him is that he expects us to keep the ball and dominate possession and that game revolves around Yaya. Pellers is more concerned with keeping the ball in the first place than having to win it back.

I think it may be time for Silva to show that he can be the pivot of the team and take that role on from Yaya.
Totally agree about Silva, in front of the ferns mind!

It's a moments like this that I am filled with hope again. You know why.

I can never quite shake off those old 'glass half empty' goggles, no matter how good we get! ;-)

Seriously though, what frustrates is that he can adapt when he feels like it, Seville away being a glorious example. Yesterday however was beyond the fucking pale, and his comments afterwards frankly incredible. As I said earlier, your average 15 year old could not have contrived a worse team selection and set up

I admire your loyalty to Pellegrini who by any measure is a decent and likeable bloke. But answer honestly, if he left City tomorrow what sort of club would employ him next.

I would hazard a guess at the South American instalment of the CFG.

The Yaya in a two thing is such lazy criticism. The results with Yaya in a two with Fernandinho are actually very very good.

This season Fernando has played in a two vs Spurs away and Liverpool at home. Demichelis also started both of those games. Both games were 4-1 defeats.

The results this season with Yaya in a midfield 3 are 0-0, 3-1 and 0-0. Those score draws and the only ones we've had in 60 odd games.

The facts suggest that it is actually Fernando who struggles in a two. He doesn't cover enough ground, doesn't show for the ball and has a limited range of passing. This is ok in a three when he simply has to get in the way but in a two it's not enough as he lacks Yaya's passing and Fernandinhos mobility.

The way forward this season is Yaya and Fernandinho, with Delph or Fernando in for the difficult games, mostly away, to make it a three.
I don't think it's lazy at all. It's down right obvious that off the ball Toure just ambles and is miles off the pace.

It wasn't always that way, and against teams we dominate of course it can work. Anyone who has a fair bit of possession can kill us though if faced by the ambling Ture

He wouldn't get a gig at a top European club that's for sure. Maybe Galatasaray like Mancini...
