Discussion: Manuel Pellegrini 2015/16

With players coming back late from international duty Pellegrini decided on that team if he wasn't so stubborn he could of set them up totally different a defensive mindset maybe which would of negated some of Liverpool's play but no it's gung-ho.

I just think if Pellegrini had faith in some of the youngsters who are fresh and ready to play with a work rate we require for games it could of Benefited us, he could of easily said in his press conference that with injuries and players coming back late from international duty I'll be playing 2 or 3 youngsters against Liverpool that then would take the pressure of the team and fans wouldn't be expecting to turn up and win, it would give fans some excitement at seeing the young lads.
I kind of agree. But imagine the shit storm on here if he did pick a team with a few academy players and we lost 4-1.

One of the things that did for Mancini, in my view, was that he kept getting done over in the same situations and never found a solution. Manuel has shown to some degree that he has the solution but he keeps failing to use it. He has to change things now and he can, if he chooses to. Time to stop playing the percentages in the way he is doing. I actually think it is time for Txiki, Ferran and / or KAM to have a word with him.

If its getting to that mate then he needs peddling

Wouldn't be worse than what we having now and like I said if Pellegrini pre warned the fans media in press conference why he's doing it the shit Storm would be bad plus those young players would of put a shift in of the ball what was lacking.

I think its less about 2v3 in midfield, more about being flexible about how the players change positions during the course of the game.

The current Liverpool team aren't capable of maintaining their pressing game for more than 10-15 min spells (perhaps longer if they get the adrenaline rush of early goals). They haven't had Dortmund's intensive pre season. If the players had been instructed to switch to a more solid formation (De Bruyne drops deeper in the middle , Sterling & Navas play a tad more defensively, a sort of 4-5-1) just for those 15 min spells we could have matched Liverpool and then played our own game when they tired.
Fully agree. We need a more flexible, fluid structure both between games and more importantly within games. IMO in the years ahead apart from Goalkeeper and perhaps Centre Backs players will become much more versatile than in the past. In that sense Milner although he could not have known about Klopp has made a wise choice in joining Liverpool. He is ideally suited to this style of play favoured by Klopp. Indeed in one game I think he played in 4 or five different positions for us.

Not really got time to debate much but I disagree. Management does not stop with the Head Coach's job: he is also there to be managed. We do not know exactly what brief he is working to but it might need changing. Regardless, what you do not do is bin off a manager in the middle of the season and pay out major compensation if the problem could be solved by asking him to make a change that he is more than capable of making.

Completely agree.

He won't get sacked after one bad defeat, of course. He will be given the season to see if he delivers the goods. Saturday was a bad day all round and was compounded by the omision of Otamendi and Fernandinho. But let's see how the season pans out before getting all hysterical. These things happen to every team in football at every level. I still believe in him and the team.

So teams don't change managers mid season?
I agree there aren't many candidates knocking about and we're stuck with him until the end of the season - but to lessen Pelle's culpability by passing a bit of the buck upstairs is protectionist nonsense.
A decent manager shouldn't need to be "asked" to make a change.

I think we can all agree - this is his last chance to get it right - pick the best team available, choose formations that play to our strenghs - but also take into account the opposition.
AND don't keep reverting back!

If it was as easy as that great. But most people on here are angry because thay believe that he does not learn from past mistakes and repeats them endlessly!!

Which is why OB1 thinks it might be time for him to be "managed".

Sevilla away shows he can change things when needed and if all it takes is a word from above then why not take that route?
