Discussion: Manuel Pellegrini 2015/16

If a clearly distressed Mangala hadn't stuck the ball in his own net after 5 minutes this could be a very different thread.

Sagna and Mangala obviously and understandably weren't at the races and a decent side took advantage.

Pellegrini doesn't go from genius to fool week in week out he's just a 8/10 manager that some things come off for and some dont. If we beat Juventus with the rested players it won't have been such a dreadful week.

Not really got time to debate much but I disagree. Management does not stop with the Head Coach's job: he is also there to be managed. We do not know exactly what brief he is working to but it might need changing. Regardless, what you do not do is bin off a manager in the middle of the season and pay out major compensation if the problem could be solved by asking him to make a change that he is more than capable of making.

I wouldn't get rid of him mid season either fella, worrying if he needs the obvious pointing out to him by the hierarchy at the club.

I think its less about 2v3 in midfield, more about being flexible about how the players change positions during the course of the game.

The current Liverpool team aren't capable of maintaining their pressing game for more than 10-15 min spells (perhaps longer if they get the adrenaline rush of early goals). They haven't had Dortmund's intensive pre season. If the players had been instructed to switch to a more solid formation (De Bruyne drops deeper in the middle , Sterling & Navas play a tad more defensively, a sort of 4-5-1) just for those 15 min spells we could have matched Liverpool and then played our own game when they tired.
I want you as our manager! It's that simple but MP can't seem to see it.

You might be right on Mangala and Sagna but why were they playing then? Surely it didn't just come on them. They knew what they had been through, as did everyone else, they knew the French National anthem was going to be played. They should not have been exposed to it if there was any chance of this happening. Accepting their word is not enough at this level. Someone needs to take control of these situations. Even then, if they weren't at the races, he could have subbed one or both of them. He subbed neither for 90 minutes.

Well - apparently he already doesn't choose the transfers, so he might aswell not manage the team - anything else we can do for him?

I do see your point but short term for the good of the club if all it takes is a sit down and a word from above then im all for it.

How weak and undermining would that be - even if he obviously needs it!!
Excuse me Mr Simeone, Klopp, Guardiola, Ancelloti. Mourinho, Ferguscum, would you mind terribly changing the way you manage?

I guess as a player you don't know how it'd affect you until you've experienced it.

Realistically Liverpool's early goals came out of mistakes from those 2. Depending on the fitness of Zaba and Otamendi maybe you can't make those changes? I don't know tbh.

One bad game, the reaction against Juventus will tell us a lot.

It was a bad result but the performances for the last 4 premier league games haven't been great either. He needs to sort it out quickly as December is looking a tough month, In fact Southampton at home is a tough game. They have only lost 3 in 13 this season.

The annoying aspect is you have around fifty one thousand City fans and millions worldwide looking forward to the game and as soon as many saw that team sheet it deflated all the hope, many just knew what was going to happen, albeit not quite as drastic as it turned out.
