The Demichelis sub was happening at 1-0, we then got two quick goals which made it seem pointless but the wheels were in motion. There was little point changing it with so little time left and Demi already stripped.

I want to see youth given a chance as much as anyone, but if you're moaning about that sub it's time for bed.

Thought exactly the same, you could see him next to the 4th official when Iheanacho scored, a full reshuffle and tracksuit back on is not how you treat players. Not for me anyway.

Who scored the second goal tonight? Did you see the bench vs Juve? There's been youth involved in nearly ever squad he's picked, often two or three.
As I say, if people are going to moan, know what you're moaning about.

What 'fans' like you don't seem to understand, we have a incredibly expensive and well paid first team to keep happy.

Why is defending the Intercontinental a Cup a big game? Why is five minutes in a dead game important in the slightest? What do YOU think would be more beneficial for Garcia? 4 minutes vs Hull or 90 against strong opposition in an international cup with his own team?

Have you read the Pellegrini thread? One minute he's a useless incompetent idiot for playing Fernando & Ya Ya, next minute the same fans want George Evans playing.

He is under great pressure to keep 20+ senior pros happy. Not only happy but motivated, keep the fitness up and their value. If one or two teenagers get a chance too, then that is great. Iheanacho has made the step up, yet it seems most fans think the best thing for us to do is bin Bony off for him. Not sure how many on here are employed at management level, but binning off a £25 million acquisition in favour a kid after a handful of games would be considered gross mismanagement.

Out of interest how many youth players do we want in? I personally want the ones good enough. Iheanacho is good enough, guess what? He plays.

Our fans are as bad if not worse than the media for putting pressure on Pellegrini. It's rare he gets any praise. Tonight being an example, wins 4-1 and fans think a kid who's already played with first team, scored for the first team would benefit more in a dead game for 5 minutes than a very competitive and rewarding game at his own level.

Kelechi will be a star, is getting games, others will follow.

Keep the faith matey. Educating the masses is a tough job but its the right thing to do. Pass it forward. Great to hear your comments.

I'm talking precisely about "minutes here, minutes there". If you can't do it when you're 3-0 up against Hull in the League Cup with 10 mins to go I don't know when you can do it.

What Pellegrini thinks matters more but it doesn't mean that what he thinks is correct. You can bet your last wank that Pep would be testing (it's not about just chucking them in) more youth players

This is a total myth about Pep. He has shown little interest in youth at Bayern. Why? Because he doesn't just give em a go, they need to be good enough. Much like he will/could be with us. At Barcelona he replaced an ageing squad with some terrific talent. Talent that was fully experienced in senior football in the secunda division. Players like Iniesta, Pique, Pedro, Busquets were much older than the likes of Garcia. Inesta was 21 before he was a regular, between 18 and 20, He'd made less than 20 appearances. At 19 he was still mainly in the B team.

Teams that have successfully integrated youth do so when they are ready.

As for tonight, Demichellis was stood waiting to come on at 1-0. Should have have been told to sit down, put his top back on and send Humphreys out to warm up for what then would be 4/5 minutes.

Personally while I'd like to see Nacho get a start ahead of Bony I can see why Pellers keeps picking him.

And while the Demi sub was redundant, I can see why he'd make that choice at 1-0.

So yeah, while I very much have problems with Pellergrini tonight he pretty much got it spot on, was also nice to see Delph get a start and think he did very well.

I agree injuries dont help but I think those things do even out over the season. As for defending its done as a team. Its all very well dressing it up as tactics this and 2 in the middle that but it's 10 outfield players each. The ones who want it more tend to get the result.

Rather outdated viewpoints in my opinion.

Firstly, injuries don't even out over a season. Not sure what makes you think that, as it's obvious that some teams get more injuries than others, and some teams lose key players more than others. You would have to go back to the last 100 years or something to get it to 'even out.'

Secondly, yes defending is done as a team, and it's done tactically. To sweep tactics aside as some small part of football is ridiculous, when it's a huge part of any team game (including field battle - one of the purest forms of 'the team game.') Tactics, tactical awareness and tactical evolution is a huge part of why football keeps getting better and more advanced.

Also, your last sentence is not only completely wrong, (as a ton of factors go into who wins a game,) but it is offensive to teams like Stoke who made it to the FA Cup Final with us and we beat them. It's offensive to loads of teams actually.

I hate that the majority of football fans I've come into contact with are stupid, like to spout cliches, and appear to think that the world of football is unaffected by the rules of the rest of the universe. Hurts my brain just hearing them sometimes. PellnotPep's post is not totally like that, but it had enough cliches to remind me of the demographic.

Another game where team selection is vital, can easy see him cocking it up tomorrow. Its time to get going in the league, we're top and have Merlin back.

Yaya's unavailability might actually help him out in this regard tomorrow. Have a feeling we'll see the 2 Ferns and Delph play tomorrow, with 'dinho in the more forward role of the three. A much more solid midfield in what is generally a tough fixture for us.

Of course that will mean dropping some of our more creative forces, so still plenty of opportunity to fuck it up for our Manuel ;)

Agree with this. There's little doubt Yaya would be playing tomorrow if he was fit and we'd be going into the game light in midfield and likely to get overrun. It's a hard thing to say but Yaya being out is a blessing in disguise. And that's more down to pellegrini refusing to limit Yaya's role in the team. There's still a place for him in our squad but it should mainly be from the bench now. He's going to be forced to play at least 2 from Delph Fernando and Fernandinho that automatically gives us a solid midfield foundation.
