Discussion: Potential Pellegrini Replacements {merged}

Do you think City have decided now what we are going to do in the Summer, or is it a case of waiting to see in what manner the season ends?

The problem is that if we do nothing now, Klopp will be well down the road to joining someone else.

Pep seems like the No. 1 choice, but it looks like he either leaves Bayern in 12 months or extends his contract there, so what do we do in the meantime? Wait? That might have been the game plan, but I don't think we can do that any more.

I hope behind the scenes we are working on bringing Klopp to City

I believe Bayern would much prefer to recoup 15m Euros (Guardiola's remaining 12-month salary) in the form of compo from City, than wanting the kudos of publicly sacking him.

I'm sure they have a fair idea if Guardiola has shown willing towards signing an extension?

And we should be simply happy with the present dynamic.

We will get a definitive answer in these next few weeks, rather than 12 months.

Either way, Pellegrini won't be retained for the hope someone else might be around in the summer of 2016.

Not when other long-term and superior appointments also exist this summer.

Lets be clear here TH - There has been a deal at BM ready for Pep to sign for about a year, the German press have been asking the question 'when will he sign it' for some time now.

I begin to wonder if Pep is just another Jose but with a better handle on PR?

Prick tease and someone who likes to be chased as his price goes up?

My last few posts have tried to get it across.

It is Guardiola who can't wait, much as he might seemingly prefer to.

We are in no position to wait 12 months for anyone, as a club or team, City will be moving forward this summer with or without him.

As I say, I believe City know they are in a win-win situation, because of the top candidates out there.

It's simply a question of who and when.

Nothing seems to point to Pellegrini sticking around for 12 months, nor being offered a longer contract.

Really hope it ends up being klopp! Just think he would be the perfect candidate for building an enthusiastic young new superpower team! Surely the chance to be the best without losing your best players is a huge incentive for any manager??

Yeah, I know about the offer on the table, my observations are more related to him going into his final year, being on the clock in terms of results and his commitment, in addition to our own immediate needs.

He won't be able to prick tease beyond these next couple months. Which is great for us.

I respect your view, but would point out that both Ancelotti and Pep are in jobs. As far as I see there is only 1 candidate. The others are very hypothetical and we can't work on the basis of what might happen. Managers and agents say the right thing to all interested parties, what their real intentions are few know.

Guardiola by priority, or Klopp/Ancelotti by default.

City are sitting pretty. Which is more than Manuel can be.

I agree, Klopp would be more my choice, simply in terms of the building blocks and I think, as a supporter base, someone we can invest more emotionally in, due to his character.

Pep is more for bragging rights, so we can deliver a big middle finger and listen to the phone-in platitudes.

We made that mistake before when signing Robinho. It's not always about making statements. It's about right time, right place.

Klopp is a big enough statement without attempting to rub noses in it.

Couple of decent articles on Klopp

There's nothing hypothetical about Guardiola's present contract situation at Bayern.

He has 12 months left. I would STRONGLY argue Bayern won't allow the highest-paid manager in the world to run down his contract without forcing him to either commit or not.

Which will ensure City will know once and for all where they stand and how they move forward.

How would all of this affect player recruitment? Klopp and Pep have different management styles and prefer different tactical systems, obviously different types of player are needed to thrive in these systems. It's not like they're similar either. Klopp's high-tempo high-intensity type of football that's more focused on quick transitions versus Pep's low-tempo controlling type of football that's more focused on positioning. Txiki likes to move for his targets early, or at least gets the ball rolling early, so how would all of this fit in? I think the answer points Txiki's belief that any CFG manager would have to have a mutual philosophy. Maybe the club aren't interested in Klopp. Or maybe I'm being shortsighted here
