Discussion: Potential Pellegrini Replacements {merged}

I think FFP might have a bearing on the timing of any appointment.
I think our financial year ends on 31st May. We may need to postpone any sacking/appointment until June to make sure we comply
this year bearing in mind the severance packages involved to both Manuel and Ruben plus potentially Bayern Munich. If we go
for Ancelotti it's probably less of an issue as Real will just sack him at the end of the season if they want rid.

My last few posts have tried to get it across.

It is Guardiola who can't wait, much as he might seemingly prefer to.

We are in no position to wait 12 months for anyone, as a club or team, City will be moving forward this summer with or without him.

As I say, I believe City know they are in a win-win situation, because of the top candidates out there.

It's simply a question of who and when.

Nothing seems to point to Pellegrini sticking around for 12 months, nor being offered a longer contract.
I respect your view, but would point out that both Ancelotti and Pep are in jobs. As far as I see there is only 1 candidate. The others are very hypothetical and we can't work on the basis of what might happen. Managers and agents say the right thing to all interested parties, what their real intentions are few know.

There's nothing hypothetical about Guardiola's present contract situation at Bayern.

He has 12 months left. I would STRONGLY argue Bayern won't allow the highest-paid manager in the world to run down his contract without forcing him to either commit or not.

Which will ensure City will know once and for all where they stand and how they move forward.

In addition to the above - City will be making it quite clear that we want Pep now so either come and join us or stay with Bayern - but we will not offer the job again in 12 months time.

If Pep doesn't want to come to City now then he can sign an extension and hope someone else pays for him in a year but with the salary he is on that will be unlikely if he signs a 3-5 year extension.

We are in the stronger position really. Bayern are making it clear they want commitment from him, as you'd expect. We are known to be keen to want Pep, it's up to him now to decide what he does. I just hope, as Tolmie is saying we are making it clear we will not wait for him.

We've also got the added bonus of the likes of Ancelotti and Klopp being available this summer too. If you're Pep Guardiola you don't go to Dortmund. You also can't go to Real Madrid... so there's not much out there for him and it's unlikely any more options will open up next year unless the Rags part with the turtle.

Sportmediaset reckon that Benitez won't sign an extension with Napoli,as he's "just waiting for the call" from city,as Guardiola has already said no.........APPARENTLY.

I believe Bayern would much prefer to recoup 15m Euros (Guardiola's remaining 12-month salary) in the form of compo from City, than wanting the kudos of publicly sacking him.

I'm sure they have a fair idea if Guardiola has shown willing towards signing an extension?

And we should be simply happy with the present dynamic.

We will get a definitive answer in these next few weeks, rather than 12 months.

Either way, Pellegrini won't be retained for the hope someone else might be around in the summer of 2016.

Not when other long-term and superior appointments also exist this summer.

Thing with Bayern is that their sense of superiority is going to stop them being patient with Pep. There's no doubt in my mind he'll have to commit ASAP to the new deal which has been on the table since last year, or they will start looking at other options too.

The flipside of that though is that there's very few managers out there who you think could step in at Bayern this summer. Certainly don't see a foreign manager like Carlo who doesn't speak German getting it. Klopp also 0% chance he wouldn't do that to Dortmund.

Going to be quite the occasion tonight. I suspect that Klopp will be there too, or at least have intermediaries there because Dortmund play Bayern in a week in the cup semi's too so you'd expect them to be scouting Bayern.

Tonight's game, Bayern vs Porto, could have a huge bearing on Manchester City's future.

If Bayern go out tonight to Porto, I'm not convinced Guardiola will be at Bayern next season at all.

He'll be waiting a while for that call I'd imagine!

Ha.....I agree.

Pff .... if he sees out his final season at Bayern and the right job isn't available then, just watch all the right jobs open up within a year after he has had a "rest".

We aren't in a strong position for Guardiola at all unless he really wants to come.

If Pep was leaving Bayern surely we would have rumours of who Bayern are looking at to replace him which we haven't

Unless of course Bayern are above rumours unlike most.

Tuchel (a very innovative and intelligent tactician) was long rumoured to succeed Pep, now he's gone to Dortmund. I could see Favre replacing Pep. Article about it here: http://www.theguardian.com/football/201 ... engladbach
