Dispatches/Sunday Times investigation: Russell Brand accused of rape and sexual assault

I can’t fucking stand this guy, talentless mouthy prick but these are serious allegations and as ever, he should be presumed innocent until proven otherwise.

I’m really uncomfortable with the way cases like this are now Mainstream news. Guilty or not, his career and life as he knows it is now over and that can’t ever be right.

Throw the key away if he is found guilty, no issues but these cases should not be out in the open like this.
If guilty, there’s a sort of ironic justice.

After watching a couple of his YouTube segments it was clear to see that he was an ‘Andy Tate’ type manipulator, influencing those with, let’s say, not much of a life, to his way of thinking, and instead of getting instant gratification by way of his ‘predatory’ instincts, he was now grooming those lost souls in society for his own means - financial in this case.

I agree to an extent, trial by media doesn't quite sit right. Why don't the people accusing others of these crimes just go to the police. Nothing illegal in this course of action and as others have pointed out, investigative reporting has been going on a long time and quite often it leads to prosecutions.

Maybe women in these situations look at the appalling lack of conviction figures, around 2%, and just don’t trust the police?

Yes because when tasked to do their job regarding accusations of sexual assault, the police always do things above board...

This is what it takes, rightly or wrongly, to get a just decision either way

What I'm even more uncomfortable with, is how quickly we as a society turn allegations of a half famous person into yet another front of a culture war. The last dozen or so pages being a prime example.

Never liked him or his material, so never paid any real attention. For whatever reason, I thought he was 'left wing' 'anti-establishment'. But honestly never cared enough to really bother finding out any more. Now I read he is 'right wing' 'anti-establishment' and a conspiracy theorist.

Not that either is in any way relevant to his conduct or the allegations. But part of me thinks that it doesn'tmatter which side he falls on, the exact same arguements would be happening, in reverse, and completely bypassing the allegations themselves.

Hope you’re not suggesting that “sides” are literally looking for opportunities to “nail” perceived political opponents here?

Completely agree with your post btw.

I wouldn’t have a clue as I don’t watch him or Tate.

Unfortunately the MET amd GMP have been riddled with sexual assault acuations about some officers, in the country alone. around 1500 reports of police officers abusing women were filled in 2022

Along with the conviction rate, and stigma still attached to women who have been assaulted by many it is understandable why some women think revealing their attack to an investigative journalist tipped off and who contacted them would bring more attention to their attack
